Roksan or Naim?

I have the Roksan K2 amplifier and I have Gallo Strada speakers coming in. The Gallos are just and open window into music and I want a really good amp to go with them. The K2 is good, but I am considering getting the neat Uniti from Naim to have an allinone box that sounds great. But how good are these naims powerwise? And how good SQ are we talking, better or worse than the K2?

I've not heard the Gallo speakers so can't comment on those. I have heard, however, the K2 and Nait 5i side by side sourced by Cyrus 6 SE CDP, firing through ATC SCM11 speakers. Both are very good, although very different.

The Naim doesn't have features of the Kandy, firstly. But SQ-wise, I preferred the Naim. It had a lot more sparkle to the presentation, and had more of......well, just more of everything. The K2, on the other hand will need very punchy speakers to really perform. The Kandy with the latest incarnation (this is just a personal thesis of thought) is just a tad on the safe side, certainly compared to the slightly boistrous LIII.

Before parting with your dosh audition audition audition. If you're still unsure, go back for another listen.

Good luck.

I can't really comment on the Gallos.

I've heard the Uniti with my Neat Momentum 3 (not a difficult drive) and with the Guru OM10s. It really drives both sets of speakers well, SQ is fantastically balanced, can really drive hard when required - got the overload lights on the Gurus flashing without even trying - but is also detailed and has a light touch when needed. It's even pretty good with speech. It seems to be a much more controlled but thrilling sound to that I have heard on most of the alternative amp/cd combinations.

Not much help I know - but listen to it and I think you'll like it.

The Gallos are extremely detailed, open, and coherent and show off the chain well, but may be a tad warmth in them.

Would you say the Uniti offers real "highend" audio reproduction, at least on the same level as the K2?

Also, I listen a lot to Acoustic, folk, country and pop - is that a diet the Naim could live with?

The amplification and CD section of the Uniti is basically the Nait 5i & CD 5i. It is very good indeed, and has a real gutsy sound. If you're chosen speaker errs on the warm or bass-heavy side, you're probably better off looking elsewhere. Naim does like a neutral speaker, like PMC, Spendor or Neat.

Also, if you're not a streamer, the Uniti is probably not the right amp, anyway.

My speakers are satelites/bookshelfs producing little bass under 60 hz and will be used with a sub. They are very neutral, but should I describe them as cold/warm I would say 0,1 mm on the warm side.

So much speculation about what the Naimuniti sounds like.

You need to find a dealer and listen to one.

The last time I heard it was with a pair of PMC GB1i's and sounding fantastic.

I doubt you are going to be sitting there at the demo with furrowed brow analysing it's 'hifi credentials' for very long before wanting to play track after track after track....

It is an extremely likeable, engaging, musical bit of kit that does away with (most) cables and clutter and just sits there and grooves.

Absolutely!

And classical too. (Just to dispell that one before anyone claims Naim doesn't 'do' classical.)

And Jazz, and vocal, and spoken word and the bleedin' Shipping Forecast with complete aplomb!

(And 'The Archers'. Just ask my missus.)

Sounds good, the price is steep, but it may be worth the cost if the CDP is 5i and the amp as well. I am afraid it may prove a bit weak powerwise. Auditioning is difficult - I live 3 hours drive away from nearest retailer, hence this thread.

Also, can the Uniti accept USB from my PC and function as it`s soundcard - e.g. play what I play on my PC in spotify and such?
