Roksan Kandy K2 CDP - Rough upper mids and highs!

Caspian M1 and TR 5 speakers.....

Just doesnt sound detailed in the highs and Bass is too much

Getting acoustics sorted

I am Music producer and have PMC's in my studio which sound killer

Those are the last words I would use to describe the sound of the K2 CD player. I'd describe the sound as very refined and insightful, perhaps occasionally veering slightly too much in that direction!

As BigH asks, what other equipment are you using it with?

+1 on that

Thanks for your help

I have a roksan M 1 caspian and Roksan TR 5 speakers with atacama HM 1 stands

Would the Caspian M 2 CDP be smoother in the highs?

I suspect its the speakers more than the cdp, I have heard it was not as you discribe. Could it be your room? Can you try it with the DB1s? If I were you I would try the Kef LS50s should be good with your amp.

thanks for your reply

I have active PMC's only in my studio

I tried with my old Mission Floorstanders and felt the same with these.

I was told by a hi fi shop that the Caspian M2 CDP would improve it....they told me to get the 'source' right

I'll check out the Kef speakers

Cheers

Can you not plug the RK cdp into your active PMCs, thats what I do now?

Dealers will say that won't they, they job is to sell more gear. I heard the RK and if anything it sounded a bit dull to me. Could you get the Caspian M2 on home loan or take your player into the dealer?

Yep, u are right...great idea...ill do that!

The K2 CDP is not an entry level player is it?

Our local shop only has sugden and plinius and its a big jump up

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated

Typical dealer response. 'Buy the next model up and all your problems will be sorted'. Don't agree at all. It might sort things out, but there are no guarantees.

BigH's suggestion to try the RK straight into your actives is a great idea. Given the more neutral sound of those speakers this will tell you whether you like the sound characteristics of the RK or not.

I thought the k2 CDP was a particularly good player. There is no need to spend more, unless its for down the pub bragging rights.

Im amazed in these enlightened times how often sources are held up as the culprit in a system. Through your PMCs direct you won't doubt it.

are you playing your music 'loud'.

I agree with the above pointing the problem away from the source and would also suggest checking your speakers or even the amp. if all is good at low levels check the rest of your kit....well, thats all I've got, good luck.

Hi

thanks so much for all the great feedback

I'll get testing this weekend....

Im ordering some Gik acoustics soon too which should help
