Roksan K2BT versus K3?

Hey everyone,

I am trying to figure what differences the new Roksan K3 integrated amp has compared to the older K2BT? To me the new K3 obviously looks nicer, better built and more elegant from the outside, it also has a new remote control, but what about the differences on the inside? Parts? Anyone compare them on sound quality?

When reading the description of both amps they appear to be very similar. I did however find two small differences. The K2BT uses a 500 VA transformer and the K3 uses a 550 VA one. Wonder if it is still sourced from Nortel? Curiously they are both rated at 140 watts into 8 ohms but into a 4 ohm load the K2BT puts out 250 watts where as the K3 is putting out only 220 watts.

I am thinking about buying one. I know Vladimir will be proud of me if I do Here in the States the K2BT sells for $1900 and the new K3 for $2500. The K3 sure looks better, but if it sounds the same as the K2BT then I don't know if the $600 price differential is worth it or not. I have a feeling I won't like that stubby volume knob on the K2BT though. Looks irritating.

The volume knob and the new fancy faceplates are not a minor upgrade in my book. Us audiophiles we listen with our eyes, ears and wallets. At least 2 of those have been upgraded in the K3.

The parts inside are more or less the same. Both the K2BT and the K3 have a 550VA transformer (or so the paperwork says). With transitional products like the K2BT it's all very confusing and will remain something for audiophile discussions for years to come. IME same happens with all transitional products in different industries.

I'm sure Roksan would be glad to sell any of those Kandys to you HappyListener. The extra $600 are for you to save or spend on. I'm sure the K3 will drop in price when the K2BT sells out. But currently the K2BT is a great deal and the K3 is a complete polished product on par with the market choices. Do you want a deal or do you want a Roksan?
