Hi Kev123

How did you find the 7404 handled motion? Did you experience any issues with picture noise? What dvd's/blu rays did you test the screen with?

WHF review of 7404 in nxt issue, out on 12th of September, I think.

WHF review of 7404 in nxt issue, out on 12th of September, I think.

was amazing! in john lewis they had a hd loop they play with scenes of icebergs and lakes full of ice so you can see panning shots!

imo it was far better than any tv in same size on the wall. crysal clear pic,v sharp, great colour and perfect motion!

then again i want mine for sd tv and watched a few channels in sd and pic was still v good but didnt really have long enough to play.

i know the guy in lewis's and he cant rave enough about them.

just wish i had enough money to buy the 9000 range lol.

also been looking at the sammy 40B650. excellent reviews on this one online stunningly beautifull to look at check below:-

EDITED BY MODS for House Rules infringement

i'm drooling over this sammy but not sure about the sd on it as this link says good but not excellent but other review said it was great?

if anyone has one please tell!

If I were you, I'd go back and check out the 7404 with fast pan action films and complex patterns. There's a scene in Wall E (not technically an action film, I appreciate), where Wall E is carried by a mass of robots having just blown up the robot repair lab. When I watched the 7404 deliver this scene it broke the deal for me... really noisy picture with a lot of blocking. The HD test disc used in John Lewis sounds like the kind of thing designed to show HD tvs at their optimum, but a scene like the one I mentioned above is, I think, a real test of a tv's capabilities. Also pick a scene that is really dark and look for levels of detail and subtlety to the picture. I thought the 7404 was very good in this respect, but didn't quite match the performance of a decent plasma screen.

It's probaly worth waiting till the 12th, if you like the 7404 -- I have to admit it's a much prettier set than the G10 -- and seeing what the WHF team think of the tv when properly calibrated. Hopefully I'm not confusing you further!

Reviews are simply put others views of a product and obviously may differ on differant areas of the TVs proformance. But although reviews for trusted sources are helpfull in making a purchase don't let them alone decide your new TV purchase, you must also trust your own eyes!

One thing I must add is from reading a few of your posts on what you have made on seeing differant TVs in action, please stop taking seeing a TV on the shop floor packed full of TVs as a real represantion regarding the TVs true potential. In the brightly lighted shop floor your eyes will generally be drawn to the TV offering the brightest image on offer as this image stands out from the crown giving a WOW factor, rember this is not how you will use the TV at home! Plasmas will often look dull next to a LCD on the shopfloor but get them home and their greater Contrast becomes evident. TVs on the shop floor are set to "shop floor mode" where contrast and brightness are set to riduculasly high levels and on LCD's backlights set high.

Try where possible to arrange a proper demo of any TV you have shortlisted in a proper demo room which will be far more reminisant of your home viewing conditions, and take a few BD's/DVDs that you know very well as you are spending a lot of your money and need to be sure that you and you alone is happy that you new TV will forfill your needs and not those of any reviewers or any of us on here, tho hopefully the reviews and all our opinions will help point you in the right direction

Agree totally with D.J. Krime. Posts on this forum are intended to be constructive rather than manipulative. If you disagree with any of the opinions expressed then go with your gut. Whatever you buy is ultimately going to end up in your living room, and you need to be completely happy with your purchase. When comparing well reviewed sets, it really does come down to personal taste. The 7404 has certain advantages over the G10 -- sharper picture and a touch more detail -- but the G10 handles motion better and has more faithful colour reproduction. These are just my opinions based on auditions of both TVs, however, and neither set is perfect.

Well, I didnt see 7404 to be honest, but I checked new 8404, and it was average at best, in some area way below average...(blacks are bad, same as viewing angle, processing is average...) wouldnt even consider it if I was you...

Id rather buy Samsung, Sony or even new LG SL series, they are all better TVs....

On the other side, 9 series are something completly different.
