Interesting. I am not sure what to think to that. Thanks. Looks like you have three modes where you can adjust the picture - not really my thing!

Hmmm I'd be lying if I didn't want to see this darbee Darblet in action or at least get a shot of one for an hour or so but at £209 I don't think I will ever find out.

With the equipment some of us have on this forum I don't think it will make much diffrence .i think the darbee would only make DVD that little bit sharper ,to the untrained eye my oppo103 playing a DVD with the intelligent frame creation to the max on the ZT some DVDs (starship troopers)could pass for blu ray.

Everything I throw at the oppo looks damn good ,I doubt the awesome picture quality of game of thrones will look any better darbee Darblet or not on any blu ray player.

Looks like it manipulates pictures. I'm not keen on it personally. http://hometheater.about.com/od/audioandvideoaccessories/fr/Darbee-Visual-Presence-Darblet-Model-Dvp-5000-Review.htm

If there's a Source Direct option all should be fine.

The Darbee processing may be useful for some sources; and if you can watch unprocessed 1080p images too, it could be a great buy.

This is far from a direct comparison, but my CA651 allows me to bypass Marvell Qdeo processing. I can't imagine a company like Oppo would force processing in all modes. I could be wrong, of course.

If it is better than the 103 it is going to be some Blu-ray player.

Yes, gel has already posted the links. Have you checked it out personally yet David?

Not yet, but obviously the basics will be the same as the standard 103. They will be reaching dealers next week and we will have one on demo, so once we have, I'll be able to have a good play with it :)

Good-o David, perhaps you will give us a mini review and a comparison against the 103. Cheers.

Agreed. It'll be down to who Darbee license their technology to. My guess would be that it will be just for Oppo at this stage.

David, where has your signature gone? :O

Is the BDP-103D Right for Me?

The main difference between the BDP-103 and BDP-103D is the BDP-103D's incorporation of the Darbee Visual Presence processor. The BDP-103 is a reference quality Blu-ray Disc player and has won numerous awards. The BDP-103D is based on the BDP-103 and shares most of the same features.

Basically, the Darbee processor is a video enhancer that provides greater clarity and increases the perception of depth by embedding stereoscopic depth cues within the video, resulting in a more dynamic, lifelike experience.

The Darbee's processing level is adjustable, which allows you to customize it to your particular taste. Unlike many other image enhancers or sharpeners, the Darbee processor does not alter the image in a global fashion, so it is able to reduce the amount of image artifacts that are created, and it does not adversely affect calibrated settings such as contrast, gamma, and color.

The original BDP-103 is known for its accuracy in reproducing video from all kinds of discs. The BDP-103D takes one step beyond reference quality accuracy. When the Darbee Visual Presence enhancement is turned off, it is a reference quality player just like the BDP-103. When the Darbee Visual Presence enhancement is turned on, the user has the option to fine tune the video to his/her own liking. In summary, if you are looking for a quality player that accurately reproduces video, the BDP-103 is the right choice; if you are looking for a more customized experience beyond standard picture adjustments, the BDP-103D provides additional possibilities to fine tune your viewing experience.

Hi guys,

Slightly off topic but still relevant..... I'm looking at buying an Oppo 103 but due to limited decent TV overseas will mostly use it for programmes/films saved on my USB hard-drive, DVDs and blu ray collections.

Question is does the DAC still upscale content when directly connected via the USB port? Or is this something which is only found on the 105? Recall reading something about asynchronous clocks etc.

In addition, back on topic, would it better to wait for the Darbee version due to the above???

Many thanks!

2) I don't think Darbee is worth the extra £100, but that's my opinion.

IMO Darbee would be worth paying not to have. If the makers of the film had wished it to look like it does post-Darbee alterations then presumably they'd have done that in the first place.
