Replacing Sennheiser PX 100s

My current (and third) pair of PX100's have just bitten the dust. Lots of travel and cramming my bags full of stuff has finally taken its toll. Is the best option another pair of the PX 100's or are there other models to consider? My budget is £100 maximum, and they will be solely used with my iPod/iPhone, when I'm out and about, but not at home. Any suggestions?

Hi Charlie.

If you plan to cram them in out out of bags etc then I would suggest spending a lot less than £100 (maybe around £20-£30). If you like the PX100 (which you must if you have just finished with the third pair) then I'd suggest another pair. There is a new version. By the way what happened to the other pairs? Was it a result of this bag cramming as you suggest and general abuse out and about, or a problem with the model?

My PX200 are lasting really well.

Yes, I think it's going to be a new pair of 100's.

As for the other pairs, it's just a combination of excessive use, lots of daily travel and too small a bag.

They've all either got snapped, sat on or the cable has deteriorated.

I've got a work-related weekend "retreat" upcoming which will involve several hours of train travel, so I'm keen to have them by then.

I'm currently using a pair of PX200's that my daughter occasionally has use of. They're just about functional with radio listening, but atrocious with music.

I find the PX200's fine with music. If you place them on your ears in the right place the bass is just right. They don't leak as much as the 100's so are kinder for other commuters and block a small amount of outside noise.

Regarding the PX200's: there must be something wrong with mine then, I abhor them.

I find the sound they convey is thin and wholly unconvincing. Though I think you're right about their advantage over the 100's in terms of noise cancelling.

Hi Charlie,

All things considered it's likely that a new pair of the same headphones suits you best. Just keep them in a hard case for glasses this time- they will last longer.

I've owned quite a lot of headphones over the years in in my personal experience the px100 are well worth their price.
