Aloha all,
At home i’ve got a marantz model 50 and cd50 paired with with Spendor Classic 3/1 and i’m very happy with them. Now i’m looking for a good turntable and the rega planar 6 with nd7 caught my eye ( actually my wife her eye and who am i to argue😜) . Now i wonder has anyone combined the planar 6 with the model 50? I’m also open for other suggestions

There should not be any problem with the Model 50. But I would assume/strongly suggest you add an external phono stage to live up to the Planar 6. Phono stages in integrated amps are fine for turntables up to around 500 quid.

" better than ones fitted to Integrated amps"
Should read better than some fitted to integrated amps.
The one in the Marantz 50 is very good and you're going to have to spend a fair bit on an external one to better it.
However, I would agree that Rega turntables do need good isolation and a wall shelf is ideal.
Get your wife to look at the Pro-ject XA-B Acrylic for a better long term investment.

Suppose it all depends on how bouncy the floor is.
My RP6 is on the top glass shelf of a hifi rack which sits on a carpeted suspended wooden floor and I dont have any issues with needle bounce or distortion. No doubt a wall shelf would be ideal, but mine works perfectly well where it is.

I have the Planar 6 with their Ania cart. The TT is mounted on a (rather heavy) timber cabinet all on a suspended timber floor and within inches of my left speaker and a foot or two from my sub. I also have absolutely no issues with distortion or feedback. The Rega is incredibly stable and self isolated.

One, you're a great proponent of external DACs, yet here you are 🙂

Two, a deck like the Planar 6 is an upper mid deck that most definitely will deserve a better phono stage that the one in the Model 50, as capable as it may be to a point. And one may be tempted to dabble in MC cartridges too.

If nothing else a decent (adjustable) external stage will allow you to cartridge match. Most internal ones don't though some state they 'auto match'. No idea what that means.

However, you'll also have additional cables and junctions/connectors which no doubt impact on sound quality too. No one ever seems to mention that.

I would agree with you if MC cartridges are ever likely to be utili but the fact he has gone for a moving magnet would seem to me as removing the need for an external phono preamp at this point in time.
Not sure where your external DACs comment comes from as I don't use one.....

AI Ears, even with MM cartirdges, the phono stage in an amp like the Model 50 will not get the best out of a fairly mid to high-end turntable like the Planar 6.

About DACs - you've consistently made comments that you will never buy any integrated amps with built-in DACs - should I dig these up for you?

EDIT - you may be right about the Model 50's phono stage anyway.
