Is there a product similar to the Project Speedbox that can be used for a Rega Planar 3 as I have a lot of 12" singles and feel that constantly changing the speed by removing the platter will eventually damage it (and is a royal pain to boot). Suppose I should have bought a Technics 1210

Get another deck and leave it on 45...

I have an old Lenco connected up next to my main deck to play 78's when the fancy takes me.

Yeah I think it does (I think the speed box manual says something like "works with any deck with ##v input", but worth talking to Henley for their view.

Another alternative is the Origin Live motor kit, but that's a bit more of a commitment financially, if I remember right.

Changing the Rega between speed settings won't ruin it at all!!!.....haha......not in the slighest bit....

Its designed to do so and even years of constant changing won't effect it at all....you might need to by a bew belt evert now and again...but you would have to anyway and there dirt cheap.....cheaper than a third party setup that has been spoken of on here anyway.

I have had my Rega 3 for years and years and my collection is a 50/50 split 45 & 33....Theres nothing wrong with it and I change speed almost daily. It has only had one service....because I spilt coffee all over it : )

If the fact that you have to to lift the plate and swap the belt up and down annoy's you.....well yeah, quite clearly you have purchased the wrong player. So sell it and get a different player - with a switch (yuk).

The Rega is built like a tank...will probably out live you and no ammount of changing belt chnages will cause it any fuss at all. Trust in the designers that engineered it - if it fails phone em up.

Also, if it suffered from a usage fault caused by belt change alone.......well I doubt it would have been given 5 stars by just about every magazine on the planet and stood the test of time like it has...

I'm sure you have bigger things to worry about....well bigger than my Rega might get a fault sometime in the future! ; )

You'll be cursing someone if it packs up next week.
What cartridge have you got?

I bought the tt second-hand so don't really know how old it is, at the moment an Audio Technica AT110e which it came with but I was considering upgrading.

Ha....serisouly....if your Rega packs up in the proccess of you changing the belt....I will personally buy you a new Rega 3
emotion-5.gif

I think you should send your question directly to Rega and see what they have to say about it if your that worried about it. I would be very interested to see what they have to say about your concerns...

I bought mine second hand as well. I shipped it from England to Australia when I emigrated about 5 years ago - and even though I wrote 'fragile this side up' (which is like waving a red flag at a bull)....the box arrived in a bit of a state. Not a thing wrong with the Rega though... Seriously there bullet proof....and postal service proof.....and Australia proof...

Has anyone out there had any woes with there Rega 3 due to general wear and tare???......would be interesting to hear from you if thats the case!!!

Good cartridge by the way Spacehopper. Now if thats what it came with and your worried about things being damaged.......do you know how old the styli is???? Maybe worth replacing that.....if you don't know the age of it/how many hours it has been used for.

I'm always worried about dropping that heavy glass platter...either on the arm or on my foot.... I don't think you will damage anything changing speeds though, the only thing I do is give the thing a shove to get it going on start up and Rega have recommended this to prolong motor life, mine in one of the early ones , still on the same motor...

It was only a slight concern and you're right it is solid - it's more a problem of me being a lazy B and a lot of the 12" singles I have have a 45 and 33 side which is a pain when your listening to them. I was thinking about replacing the stylus probably the best idea as it's only around £24 and buy some more vinyl

Mate, thats the ticket...

Pointless worrying about things that may or may not happen in the future. You have chosen a great record player from a great company that will look after you...

Get the stylus.....and some new vinyl to try it out on. Maybe get an LP though huh...so you can keep it on 33
emotion-1.gif

Trouble is I've got a Joe Bonamassa LP on order with Amazon which should have been in stock a month ago. If it's not here soon I'll change the order to CD and save some money. I've looked at buying other stuff like Love over Gold but it was £73 and a Santana album was £1300. I could buy a new RP? for that.

Do tell - what was the Santana album ?

I use these places for my new vinyl

http://www.classiclps.co.uk/ (the only Jo Bonamassa they have is The Ballad Of John Henry)

http://www.audiophileusa.com/ (only if looking for something rareish as it's pretty expensive)

http://www.juno.co.uk/ (all things dance)

http://www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/index.php & http://www.soundsoftheuniverse.com/ (at the moment they're my biggest downfall as they have so much stuff I'm into I usually end up broke every month !)

I've noticed quite a few hi-fi online shops do vinyl ( http://www.analogueseduction.net/acatalog/index.html ) but haven't bought anything from them - yet !

The album was Supernatural. I thought about buying it on vinyl cos the CD sounds like it was produced to be played in a car with blacked out windows and a 500 watt sub in the boot. There is one on Amazon now for £330. Ridiculous.
