Yeah, hifi corner in edinburgh is closing down, but even before that the guy said he could do me a 8200a for £500. I might have even been able to haggle more. I guess he knew they were closing down as only a few days later the sale signs went up.

Tell your friends! lol.

Do they have any Roksan Kandys?

And let's not discount the Marantz K1 Pearl Lite - a lovely - spacious and very revealing amp.

IF you play your music at low levels the Audiolab 8200 is a superb amp - seriously, it sounds stunning at low levels - it also as an amazing headphone stage, the best I've heard on any amp/cd player and I was using an old pair of Beyerdynamic DT231's its also one of the best looking amps on the market in its gun metal grey/black colours

Problems do start when you turn it up - it peeks at around 9 o'clock then starts to fall apart in that it sounds disjointed (on this I agree with the WHF review) not heard the others but with this amp try in your own set up before you buy.

Well....I went into the shop today for i think the 3rd demo of the brio-r, and walked out with one! :)

I was a little unsure as i was auditioning both the rega and the nad 326. I was totally impressed with the nad, more so than other other amps (especially due to price) that i had auditoned. It seemed to have a little more bass weight than the rega, but less detail and precision. However as the auditon went on...for about an our and a half, the regas bass weight seemed to improve.Possibly due to not being turned on before the audition. So i nervously went for the rega. Once home and unboxed, and all plugged in....again..nervously...i listened to how it sounded in my room. It sounded even better than in the demo, and this was strtaight out of the box! I have a small room (about 4x5m) and the bass weight was imediately more present, and i only had to turn the volume to 8 or 9 oclock, where in the larger demo room, the amp really only sounded good at over 10 oclock.at 8 oclock, i could barely hear it. i am currently listening to it at 8 oclock and it sounds incredible.

I'm super happy. Well done and thanks to Rega. this is a great amp.....if it gets better as it wears in as many say it does...it's going to be a belter. (although it really already is).

I definitely made the right choice in amps, as this has the clarity and detail, pace AND now the bass weight.

Yes! Stoked!!

:bounce:

I am just as happy at not having to worry anymore about which amp, as i have been reading everything on this amp for 6 months. Phew!

Oh...and thanks to all who have helped with me making a choice. All comments have been really helpful. :)

The Brio R is a truly remarkable amp for £498

I am sure it compliments your speakers very well!

All you need now is a Rega TT (only kidding)

Hi

Congrats on the new amp!!! :bounce:

Rega really did a special amp with this one! And yes it needs to run in, my advice is to keep it on 24/7.

Mine is on 24/7 since I tested myself.

How does it sound with your Dyns 2/7?

And welcome to the club!!!

Best REGArds

Thanks all.

Hifi Outlaw, the amp is indeed incredible. I auditioned quite a few and this one is in a different league. In my small room i am only turning it up to 8 oclock, which in the larger audition room i could hardly even hear. This makes me happy! I was worried about whether it was driving the speakers totally because they are 4 ohm, but I can confirm they drive them without any trouble whatsoever.

The sound is simply awesome/beautiful.

I did notice this morning though that the speakers are a little more boomy than they were with my old amp...simply due to there being more bass. I resorted to placing the foam bungs in very slightly, so they are only just in, and the boominess goes completely. I think statistically this will effect some of the SQ but i really cant notice it. sometimes i think i can notice it being a reduction in SQ by about 1%, and then other times i think it improves the SQ by that and more. The sound is still beeeautiful!

It did make me think about allm the good comments for the x12, and it might be something i look at in the future, but i almost might find myself in a larger room so i can move my speakers further from the walls (currently they are 22cm from walls, and in audtioning room, they were 3 feet, and absolutely no boom).

But it is definitely the best amp i could have chosen. As far as i can tell....no contest! :)

It's Really wonderfull when we HIT the Hi-Fi Jackpot !!!!

My System manage to put a smile on my face every day!

I think The Brio R with the Dyns X12 are really one of the magicals combos in this budget, outperforming expencive ones! For sure!

I never heard the DM range, but can't be to far apart from the X12, i think... :?

I think your next step should be dedicaded stands ( if you have the speace for them) the performance of the speakers can improve dramatically!

If you choose to, don't forget to live it on!

Well I had my Brio R nearly a year now after watching the Paul Darwin (Rega) video on You Tube about how good the phono stage on the Brio R is - my mate was always banging on about how good his P3 was and told me that his local HiFi shop had a used RP1 for sale at £150, that was last July.

I got addicted, bought the used RP! then got an RP3 in February and lucky for me I was given some money so was able to upgrade to an RP6 and havent looked back - I love vinyl!

Cheers for the link from Terry Bateman...i shall read it now.

I totally feel like "hifi jackpot" describes how lucky i feel with this amp. It is a sublime sound. I remember when i was very young visiting my grandfather who played his own beautifully sounding grand piano, but also had a gorgeous sounding B&O system. This was my introduction i guess into the world of quality hifi sound, and i always dreampt of one day being able to get something similar, although at the price of B&O stuff, for years i had almost accepted that i wouldn't achieve that dream. I do feel now that the dream is realised with this amp (plus speakers and cd player). :star: :star:

:)

I have never actaully heard vinyl on a system like this, and the guy in the shop where i bought it from was saying the same thing...get into vinyl. I find no faults with cds really, and I would genuinely be surprised if vinyl sounded better, but with everybody being a big fan, i guess it is something i should at least have a listen to.

Great to be part of the club btw......and couldn't believe how many of these things the shop sai they sell. several a week. I thought it would be that many a month if lucky. and i did see one parcelled up about to be shipped off. The guys on the shop floor at rega must be working overtime!

oh...and I think it looks amazing too! I've read a few peoples negative opinions, but i think it looks as good as it sounds...pure and simple. (and to anyone concerened, the red rega logo and light do not make the room glow red in the dark. I guess red light is much softer than say blue, which does light up a room slightly. compared to the tiny blue dot on my cd player, which clearly emits light in the dark, the rega logo produces no excess light. very nice!).

I think the Brio-R looks quite quirky. My only criticism is regards the new 'R' CDPs - they look too stealthy IMO.
