Nearing completion of my house renovations, and I now have a living room which is 8m wide by 4m long. I.e. the Plasma is going on one of the longer walls (approx centr of room).

I am replacing all my 12+ year old cinema system, but need to figure out the best speaker package to handle such a big room, especially the width.

Does anyone have experience of a similar sized room, and if so what speakers would you recommend? I have though about Dali Ikons and the wonderful Mordaunt short Performance 6 package, but very open minded. I want to get the speakers chosen, then I'll buy appropriate amplification to suit.

You're actually going to be sitting quite close (3m?) to the screen, then, if the surrounds are going to be sited to the side and a little behind (as recommended on the Dolby website, for example). Therefore, the speakers won't be that far away either but you have a huge choice. Before giving advice, we all need to know your budget as the speaker/amp package needs to be chosen TOGETHER.

Pioneer sc-lx81 is the chosen amp.

Was looking at Tannoy arena highline 500 in 7.1 configuration.

Hi

I have that amplifier with the B&W FPM series see B&W website and they sound fantastic. I have two 6's at the front one 5 for the centre and two fours at the rear with B&W PV1 sub.

This system is the best I have heard.

Have a look at Miller & Kreisel packages 750 , new 950 or 150. Or another alternative sunfire cinema ribbons.

to wet the appetite.

My lounge is similar sized as yours, & I've got Monitor Audio R225HD front & centre, & R90HD rears with Monitor Audio AW-12 subwoofer. The sound is absolutely splendid and more than adequate. If you've got 60" TV, go for R250HD which will match the height of your TV. Mine was being housed inside a cabinet anyway...so I went for the smaller one.

Hey guys I went for the Tannoy Arena highline 500's. TS12 sub. Sound is superb, albeit a bit trebbly in the rears to start. Pioneer Amp takes some fiddling with to get the best setup - the auto setup feature did a reasonable job, but I had to tweak to get it sounding right, especially centre dialogue. My room is very empty and quite an echo, so turned up the bass and attenuated high ends a bit. Very pleased. The tannoy fronts are rather subtle, but still experimenting...... Once I've got the home cinema side cracked, I'm gonna have a go at getting stereo music set-up sorted. Amp has so many settings to play with.

PS - Pioneer PDP-LX6090 panel is awesome. Glad I didn't scimp and just settle for the (much cheaper) 50". It is such a shame they are pulling out of this market.
