Motorhead was the first gig i ever went to. Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on the Ace Of Spades tour. My ears were ringing and i had a big smile on my face all the next day in school.

Lemmy - one of the few who truely led the rock star lifestyle.

Sad news.

He was born in Burslem, Stoke on Trent. Born a Stokie myself, always sorry to hear about the death of a famous son of the city. It'll be loud in heaven today!

Lived his life exactly how he wanted to, not all of us can say that.

A genuine legend of Rock n' Roll.

You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby,
I don't wanna live for ever,
And don't forget the joker!

I've never owned a single Motorhead recording, but have total respect for Lemmy and his band as true originals and for keeping the hard rock flame alive for the last forty years whether it was in or out of fashion. Very sad news.

I was at that gig. My friend had a backstage pass so we all bought an official programme and had them signed by the band.

Great live act on the 'Bomber' tour. The lighting rig was a bomber plane and the spotlights were on the propellers. They would start spinning and then the 'plane' would drop down on to the stage. Lemmy would climb in and fly over the stage while playing his bass guitar. Brilliant.

Never really involved with the band (just one gig in Paris as a atand in) but the lighting company with whom we shared premesis were their regular crew and conceived and built the bomber. Innovative use of pulsed lasers to emulate machine guns too, though sometimes not allowed by over zealous safety officers.

Never really knew him or the rest of the band though they were always 'around' when not touring.

RIP.

BTW. Lemmy was addicted to slot machines so never had any cash, hence his nickname.

Mr Rock and roll.

Lemmy when asked about his music - "Very basic music - loud, fast, city, raucous, arrogant, paranoid, speed-freak rock n roll. It will be so loud that if we move in next door to you, your lawn will die"
