My intention is to use its HDMI out for the TV in the living room. However, I also want to use its component or composite output to feed a small 20" TV in the kitchen (so I can have the TV playing while cooking or entertaining) - also with the 2 channel audio leads (red and white cables). Is the Onkyo capable of doing this? I think it should be but just want to check before buying it.

Can be done, but the Zone 2 output will only feed video from sources connected to the receiver using composite and S-video inputs. In other words, there's no down-conversion.

So assuming you're using an external TV source, such as a Sky, Virgin or Freesat box, and connecting to the receiver via HDMI or HDMI and optical, you'll also need a composite video connection and analogue audio to a spare input on the receiver.

You then select that spare input as the source for Zone 2.

Or you could of course just run composite video and analogue audio feeds from those outputs on your TV set-top-box direct to the kitchen TV!

Ok thanks for that. I will probably use a spare input for composite - that sounds like the easiest solution.
