Hi Jase......I am seriously considering investing in the Denon 2500 BT; I thought about it before but the incompatibility with Paramount discs etc put me off....

I am currently enjoying my Sony BDP S550 so before investing another £500 or so in the Denon, I want your opinion on the picture; is it noticably better that the Pioneer Blu Ray you used to run, I've been told by some that 1080 is 1080 picture will not vary much from player to player......but surely with the built quality of the Denon plus the paired down electronics of the 'transport only' set up there will be less 'noise' on the picture. Also how is it as an upscaler.....better than your Pioneer....

also will a new player have the latest firmware installed or will I have to do this when I get it ?

More importantly will the wife notice a difference......!!!!!!??????

For a display I am using a Sony KDL 52X2000

Hi lcd4ever,

The Pioneer LX70 was the first bluray player i ever owned & although it had alot of issues with it i.e freezing etc i have to say the quality was sensational (when working) even WHSAV had said at the time it was the pinnacle of bluray performance but unfortunately it was a terribly unreliable player, shame really as if it wasnt i would of certainly kept it.

So soon as Denon brought out the 2500BT i ditched the Pioneer for it, now i wasnt really expecting it to be better quality than the Pioneer but hopefully more reliable, so when i hooked it up & started watching my blurays i was amazed at how much better the quality was i felt i was watching a completely different format as the quality IMO was a leap forward.

As for upscaling its also one of the best & miles better than the Pioneer, as for firmware? version 1.118 came out back in January of this year & its been very successful as i havnt had any trouble with it, theres also a further firmware 1.119 of which i havnt added to mine as yet as i havnt had any issues thats warranted it. If you get a new player it "could" have the latest firmware if not youll just have to download it yourself lcd.

Now to me its well worth the upgrade over the Sony & especially with the price you can buy it for now, as you know i have very high praise for this player as its a stunning picture as well as sound so id say go for it mate. And as for you saying it should have less noise? It hasnt got any at all lcd its that good.

Thanks for the reply Jase; I will probably go for it, will have to wait a while as I just got the Yamaha 1900, the new Mezzos , the NAD and the Kandy K2 all in the last month......so running a little short on credit with my other half lol taking her to New York for her Birthday in October so I will have some extra 'credit' with her then...

Just another quick question on the firmware downloads; once downloaded I take it I attach the Denon to my laptop via USB to update the fimware ?

Thanks for your help...

Craig

Hi Craig,

Yes i'd definately go for it ! As for the firmware Craig the Denon does'nt have a connection to the internet you have to burn it to a CD-R then just follow the instructions accordingly, it's very simple to do.

I'll just say you lucky so & so for going to New York, it's a place ive always wanted to go, hope you both have a nice time...

Thanks for that Jase; I realised after posting that doh!!! the Denon TRANSPORT will not have a usb port......

Get yourself to NY Jase if your a film fan it's simply amazing just like being on a giant film set; plus the food and shopping are amazing....it's our third time, we're going to see Springsteen at Giant's stadium twice while we're over there so it should be amazing.....looks like I will have to get the missus a pair of shoes now then I can swing the Denon no probs.....lol!!!!

Im very determined to go to New York mate, it will happen but not sure when though, ha

Its just one of those places ive always been fascinated with, maybe because most films like you say are shot there. And a pair of shoes for the other half is a small price to pay for the Denon approval id say lol

Hi Jase.....took the plunge yesterday......bought the Denon 3800; got it for £799 just couldn't let it slide at half price....

Regarding firmware downloads......could you direct me to the Denon site where they are available to download ?

One other thing on the subject of the fimware downloads which software do you recommend for 'unzipping' the files before burning to cd......?

Thanks for your help mate.....

Hi Craig,

You certainly did right in taking the plunge on the Denon 3800 for half price mate you would of been a fool not to of done, good for you !

Denon firmware sight is http://firmware.denon-online.eu/index.php

And as for which software to use Craig im afraid i cant recommend anything as i have a friend on here that burns & sends the fimware to me as this PC i use is rubbish really & i cant get it to do it, ill be getting a new PC within next few months anyway.

Afternoon. Lcd4ever I use Nero to burn the file onto disc. I'm sure there are other, simpler programs though that would suffice. Cheers.
