Hello fellow forum members.

The long running saga of my Denon 4308 AVR repair has finally reaching a conclusion. The Denon Main dealer here in Saudi Arabia has had my Amp for nearly 12 months now and has at last quoted me a repair bill of 500.00 sterling to replace the transformer.

My dealings with him have been fraught at best, non returning phone calls, e-mails etc etc. Does anyone know if this is a realistic price for this sort of repair?

My worries centre around the period of time he has had the Amp, his ability to even carry out this repair, whether this will fix it or will it turn into an even longer saga requiring more parts and tbh whether or not I would be better served putting the 500.00 sterling towards an improved Amp set up.

I have posted on here before highlighting my desire to head towards additional front speakers and have been considering the following:

Denon 4810 - circa 1,200.00 sterling

Denon 4311 - circa 1,200.00 sterling

Marantz AV8003 & MM8003 - circa 2,000.00 sterling

Marantz AV7005 & MM7055 - circa 2,900.00 sterling

Whilst I appreciate these prices would involve me shipping to Saudi (or getting a bloody big suitcase!) I just can't help feeling that spending 500.00 sterling on a repair of a 3 year old Amp is throwing good money after bad and I may be better served putting it towards one of the above.

I really am at a crossroads now and need to make a decision. I am returning to the UK in early August and would probably either return with the broken Denon 4308 to seek repair in the UK or bring one of the above back with me.

Suggestions and help gratefully recieved.

Thanks in advance

Cameron.

If that were my dealer I would have ended the relationship months ago!I would get my receiver back asap and not let him touch it. You could bring it back to the UK but it will cost bringing it over and then back again!
If funds allow I would buy a new one especially as you have been considering it particularly the 4810 ,better amps, unless you want all of the channels that the 4311 will give.
Let me know what happens

The Marantz AV 7005 paired with the mm8033 as this is pre/pro set up will give you 8 channels of amplification to biamp or configure your system however you choose. This would be a good choice and good value.

The Marantz AV 7005 has the better Auddyssey Multi Eq XT and hdmi 1.4.

If you prefer the mm 7005 power amp you could always add the mm 7025 stereo power amp to give 7 channels at a alightly better sq than the mm 8033.

What speakers do you have?

So would I be correct in saying that adding two additonal 2 ch amps would allow a 9.1 set up? Or maybe two 7 channel amps and use the spare amplification for bi-amping some of the speakers?

I am looking to add front height/width speakers if possible to run alongside my four rear surrounds.

That is correct.

This would give you a pretty awsome set up for both music and movies!!

Your MA speakers deserve to be bi amped.

If funds allow go for it, I would but my wife would divorce me.
