I only ask as it will be something of an aggravation to go and audition them (public transport and all that). Any thoughts?

Difficult to say as the speakers I bought with it as a "tide me over" are a bit too forward in the bass department.

I think they're very good speakers but just not to my taste. I want detail and imaging with the bass not so much to the fore. I love the Lektor 1's for this reason; the 2's I'm not really that familiar with having only heard them once a very long time ago but opinion seems to be that they don't have quite the detail of the 1's.

I feel that this amp deserves better which is why I'm expanding my options, but £400 is my absolute limit!

edgarpr:You didn't get this on ebay yesterday by any chance 😉

No, hate the place. I'd given up finding one but stumbled - literally - on one locally on Sunday and picked it up the next day. Why?

I purchased a Pioneer A400 off Fleabay a couple of months ago on the strength of various recommendations. It is a lively beast, delivering power and a dynamic sound without effort. Personally, I find the sound too enthusiastic and brash. But I think that it is all about partnering and personal taste. I am now reluctant to let the amp go - it may well form the basis of a second system elsewhere in the house.

There's a lot of Leema Xeros being sold off for £400 a the moment. Maybe it'd be worth an audition.

F'instance, these at Brighton, and I think Sevenoaks in general do them for £500 at the mo. A lot of speaker for that sort of price.

If you want detail and imaging I do not think you will be dissapointed with the little AVIs. No idea if they would go with your amp though. JD pointed me in thier direction and when I tried them against other similarly priced speakers they were the best by a fair way. Some people on hear do t think they give much ground to the PMC db1 or spendor s3e but it must be said I have not compared thempersonally.

...maybe the Leema Xeros aren't the right match then...

I haven't heard an A400 ever, I don't think, but certainly the traits you mention here are a pretty good description of the Vs, I'd say. There were times when I thought I might have liked a bit more bass, but having had some Diamond 9.1s on today and them losing their composure a bit at the bottom end, I'm kind of wishing the AVIs back..

Ooops! The A400 was on ebay yesterday and it pretty much came with free speakers (considering the price), thought it might have been you after you said 'as the speakers I bought with it'. I was considering to bid on it myself but it looked like it was in a pretty battered state and really dirty, and dont get me started on the speakers, they might have been good but they were SO ugly and in poor shape. Being precious about condition cost me around 50 quid more :-(

You no longer have them?
