Hi all,
Was looking to pick up the currently bargain-tastic Q Acoustics 1010i package (student loan depending!) in the next few weeks, but had a couple of quick queries which I figured you guys could help with before I sank the cash.
Firstly, I'd assume that they would provide a noticeable upgrade over my existing 5.1. setup? (which is an Onkyo HTP-450A speaker package which I got when I bought my amp a few years ago) I'd like to audition them ideally, but the fact that they're a bit older now, plus the extremely positive reviews I've read may mean I can't/ don't need to. I'll be feeding them mainly Blu Ray soundtracks and games through the equipment listed in my sig. I figured they would do due to the excellent reviews and the fact that they are essentially a hi-fi speaker when compared to my current one which are more of a basic sats and sub system.
Secondly, at a more technical level, would they work ok with my existing amplifier, which is an Onkyo HT-R508, as its 110 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and the speakers are listed as having a maximum power handling of 75 watts, with 6 ohms resistance. I was under the impression that this would be ok, as the amp would just put out 75 watts when they were connected, but I didn't want to risk connecting them and blowing them up! My apologies if this is a bit of a newbie question, I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes down to bit rates and formats and the like, but when it gets to the nitty gritty of the electrical stuff I'm a bit stumped!
Thanks!
