After reading alot of good reviews on the q acoustic 1010i 5.1 speaker package, I am really interested in buying a set for christmas, but have come across a set on the net of the 1010 not the i's, what is the difference because they are on offer for £299.

They have taken an award winning set and improved it, hence the i in the name. Bothe the 1010 5.1 an 1010i 5.1 are 5 star award winners.

Hi, I have recently acquired a SONY STRDA5200ES unit from my father as he is upgrading his system but keeping his speakers. I was thinking about getting a set of the 1010i speakers to go with it - how do you think it will sound? I also noted that my Amp output is 120W and the speakers are apprently suited to amps of 15-75W rating - any idea what this might mean and what effect it might have - I wouldn't want to blow them up!!

It's totally subjective and depends on the kind of room you're putting it in. I have to admit that I'm a relative novice compared to a lot of the people in this forum and I was interested in the prize-winning 1010i package. However, after doing a fair amount of research and reading a lot of reviews, it seems that the main differences seem to be improved crossover and an improved subwoofer. I felt that these improvements weren't worth the extra £150-200 to me personally so I bought the 1010 package for £299 to go with an Onkyo 605. The room it's going in isn't very big so the improved subwoofer wasn't a deciding factor for me as I have to keep the volume at a reasonable level anyway in order to keep the neighbours happy. The money I saved has gone on high quality speaker cable and some nice speaker stands. I'm thrilled with the result and I think I got great value for money. However, if you have any doubts and you have the time, you should definitely try to get to a place where you can audition the two sets to compare them. I didn't have that luxury but I am happy with what I've got.
