Publications on setting up your equipment

Hi, Are there any publications that I can buy, that encompass all aspects of setting up your home systems. Such as details on cables, speaker positioning, which leads to use, an idiots guide to jargon etc. I wish to learn more about this subject and would appreciate a book explaining everything. The only paperwork I can find is from Richer sounds that is a photocopy of three pages showing systems and connections, but is very basic. Would What Hifi consider running a monthly idiots guide on setting up? The Mags is very good and I find it enjoyable to read. It took me some time to twig that an optical cable was for sound! Anything would be appreciated. Maybe someone could write an ebook. Ta

Well, our How To videos are pretty good (I like to think!) and cover off many of the topics you've mentioned. Check out the Video section of the site. There's also a fair amount of useful info, including guides to set-up, jargon busting and more, in our Blogs section.

Keep meaning to get stuck into just such a project, but somehow never seem to have the time. Can't for the life of me think why...

You can sign up to Russ Andrews newsletter here and you get various guides and tips, though it can vary from beginner to high end. I had a look at Amazon and found this, which helpfully (!?) come in a variety of languages. I think you just need for Andrew to get scribbling

johnno i dont think there's a 'one stop' book/mag to solve all your needs, as the lads mentioned reading the Blogs and How To guides are a good place to start

You will find that when your setting up your system theres no "Rule of Thumb" as such, so much will depend on your screen size, viewing distance, room size etc, etc

Some of the best advice i received was by members of this forums............so stay tuned ,theres loads of people here ( well more knowledgeable than me) ready to help you out
