Can anyone tell how well the PS3 would perform with a Cambridge audio 640 amp and some speakers (£100-200 which I am yet to buy)? Or would I be better off with a dedicated CD player- perhaps the equivalent Cambridge audio CD?

Much Thanks

Stu

Connected to a dac i have been told it performs very well, without a dac, hmm it doesn't perform anywhere near as well as my budget QS range XB930 cd player.

would I need a DAC if i were to just play from CD as i intend and not from saved file?

thanks

Makes no difference. Just to be clear, you don't *need* a DAC. The PS3, like anything which plays audio CDs, has one built in. However, you are likely to get notably better sound quality by running it through an external DAC such as the Beresford (if value is more important than looks) or the Cambridge DacMagic. If this would be the sole use of the DAC, you might be better off getting a standalone CD player, e.g. the matching Cambridge you suggest. However, if you also want to use your PC as a source of music, for example, an external DAC might represent better value.
