Can anyone tell me the best way to connect my ps3 and sony 1200es, at the monent i have an hdmi lead running from my 37 panasonic px80 to the sony 1200es and then another hdmi lead coming from the 1200es and into the ps3 and i also have a optical lead plugged in.

i am thinking of just running 1 hdmi from the tv and ps3 and using the optical lead to plug into the sony 1200es.

And can anyone tell me how to set up the ps3 sound settings to get the best possible sound between the ps3 and sony1200es for blu ray discs, i am at a loss at the moment.

thanks

PS3 direct to TV via HDMI and to amp via optical is the best method. There is no advantage in connecting the PS3 to the amp via HDMI as it simply switches it, unless of course, you have other HDMI sources and just want the convenience of a single HDMI going ot the TV. Set the PS3 up for optical audio output and bitstream and that should be it. The default settings work fine. Set your amp to auto mode and that should be it.

I have connected my ps3 direct to my plasma Panasonic via hdmi, and also the optical cable direct to my Yamaha Dsp z9 as said above, the sound quality is excellent, how ever connecting this way ,you will not recieve dts-hd master audio or dolby true hd,you will just get core dts and dolby digital via optical - bitstream, you would have to connect the hdmi cable to a hdmi capable amp which accepts these sound formats and change the settings i belive to Lpcm under hdmi blu-ray settings on the ps3,any one else out there agree with me or does my statement need correcting? hope this helps

No you are correct, you'll need to upgrade the amp if you want HD audio with a PS3. The alternative would be to buy a BD player with multi channel out.
