Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help me out :)

I recently bought a sony STR-DA2400ES receiver and use my PS3 to play Blue Ray movies through HDMI.

For some reason it only plays the audio through the front two speakers and not the rear surround sound speakers.

I've got my B&W603s bi-amped at the front, and then two rear speakers.

When the PS3 menu screen is open on the TV it shows on the amp display all the speakers but as soon as you play a movie it goes to 2 channel :(

I've made sure that the auto callibration picked up all the speakers and that I chose 5.1 sound in the film menus.

Anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks,

Andy

Andy,

The sound you get is probably because you have connected the AV cable too, and this is how the sound comes through.ÿ

I hadÿthe same problem with 2400ES and a BDP-S550 and a PS3. I've talked to Sony support today and it looks like the problem is the DVI connection to the TV. For some reasons it doesn't work. The only solution is: get a HDMI TV. I didn't goÿballisticÿabout it since I have an old HD Ready TV that kind of sucks and I was planning to replace it anyway.

In the meantime I use a digital coax for the BD player and a optical output for the PS3 so that I can get sound. You also have to make sure that the receiver is "updated". If there is a manual page copied together with the documentation that includes the updates to the pages 87, 91 and 117, then it is possible to use HDMI and assign the sound on a different input. You can do that from the menu, select the inputs icon, then the input you have the PS3 connected and then press on the remote Options. You'll be able to assign a video input and an audio input. While watching something press the Input Mode button on the remote to cycle through the inputs until the optical one is indicated. You should get the 5.1 sound.

But to use just the HDMI cables it has to be HDMI all the way to the TV.

ÿ

Cheers,

Alex.

How is the PS3 configured? It should be set to LPCM and HDMI audio in the BD/DVD and sound settings menus respectively if memory serves me right.

Hi, cheers guys.

The TV is a Sony KDLW4500 and I've got it connected to the amp via the hdmi lead...

BUT i've also got the audio coming from the TV Into the amp... i'm wondering if that's causing an issue!!

The PS3 has all the correct settings in it.

I was using the BRAVIA sync to control the tv etc... :)

I think it may be the System Audio Control on the TV affecting things - see STR-DA2400ES manual p81 - or possibly the HDMI Audio Out setting - manual p57.
