Projector Location Does It Need To Be Central?

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to have a projector set-up 3-4 ft off center? The distance from the projector to the screen would be approx 4 meters. I'd basically like to set it up ontop of one of my tall bookshelfs which we have either side of the fireplace. It would look a bit odd right above the fireplace itself in the center location.

Any recommendations on a projector under £1,500? Infocus 80 or 83?

Thanks for the help,

Neil

Some projectors have both vertical and horizontal keystone shift, achieved electronically, or physical lens shift, to counter the skewing of the picture when the projector is off-centre.

It does have some impact on picture quality, but yes - it's doable.

You can get projectors that specifically allow for sideshot use (see picture in my projector blog), or many other projectors have efficient keystone correction, though check this is horizontal (as you need it) as well as vertical.

Believe the InFocus models only do vertical keystone...but the Sanyo PLVZ700 (winner of GroupTest in our current issue) is more flexible (it has a host of picture-shift options), and could suit you very well.
