hi, i appear to have developed a problem with my pioneer bluray player, and was hoping someone out there could help me.

for what seems like no reason, when playing back a BDdisc, sometimes it just flicks to a 4:3 screen (think ive got that right, black bars left & right rather than top & bottom) but these bars are light grey, have had it happen with cloudy with a chance of meatballs, up & jacksons this is it, i have fully updated the player, but still have the problem.

anyone out there have any ideas?

I have that blu ray player and the movies you are talking about are all really new ones where the firmware updates would have not been done yet.

Has it happened with older movies at all?

If yes which ones?

thanks

quickly tried another couple of discs last night, didnt suffer with the problem, going to try some more today, i am hoping that it is to do with these being new films & just needing a firmware update. is it worth calling pioneer to ask them/let them know?

@ smme as said in first post, i have the latest firmware, i updated it to make sure i had the latest software 1.38, this problem first showed its face during cloudy with a chance of meatballs.

Hi yes I would call pioneer and see what they say, you could also try the person you brought it from. Try some more discs and let us know how you get on with them.

Thanks

sorry misread your first post, sounds more like a disc problem to me? do you know of anyone with the same discs that you have had the problems with could try a different disc( same film), would also try contacting pioneer to see if they are aware of any probs and to see if any firmware updates are in the pipeline.

Personally I never would do an upgrade unless you really thought your player needed one.

Also if you check the pioneer website here

http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/content/support/support/upgrade/BDP.html

Then every 3 months or so if you check there you will see an update. I would recommend not uploading a firmware update untill at least a couple of weeks after it first appears.

Looking at this the last updates were on the 21 December.

I contacted pioneer once about sending me a disc of the latest firmware update and the answer was we have not got time and the cost to send out a firmware update disc to everyone so no.

i have been onto pioneer, really good support from them, turns out it was to do with my plasma, handy that its a pioneer too, it was the 'side mask' feature, and on all of the films i mentioned at some point they are presented in 4:3 (UP, right at the begining when its black and white) the grey bars replace the black side bars to reduce the risk of a 4:3 screen burn, switched that off & hey presto! no problems :)

@peckie22 i have not suffered with those voice sync issues, so is prob a settings issue somewhere (at a guess). others on here might know better thou, hope you manage to sort it. you really should check you have the up to date firmware though, is on pioneers website & is very easy to do.
