Pro-Ject Xperience ....

... , the Acrylic finish versions looks really smart to me, along with a good spec.. Pretty good reviews overall, but I wonder how they compare with some of the cheaper Pro-Ject decks?

This turntable is a huge step up from the cheaper Project decks. I've compared it to the Debut 3 and the differences I heard convinced me to go for the 2-Xperience acryl despite it being more than twice the price of the Debut. From top to bottom this deck is more cohesive and refined. Dynamics are outstanding with a deep taut bass and a lively and revealing top end. I've had an AR and a Linn before this deck and this one completely outshines those old decks. Turntable design has greatly improved since the 80's that's for sure. :clap:

Hi DIB,

I have this tt. Bought it about 7 years ago just before the price started to go up. (Won`t tell you what I paid for it in case it upsets you though if you want me to I shall!)

Anyway, been very happy with the sound and it looks the business! Only thing that went a couple of years ago was the speed box so I had to pay for a new one of those.

All I need to do now is replace the rest of my system to keep up with it! 🙂

Yes, a lid was a must have for me. As well as Pro-Ject decks, I also gave serious consideration to the Clearaudio Concept package. However as well as being a bit too expensive for me, it does not come with a lid, so that was a no-no for me.

As regards the Xperience Classic PP, it was a toss up between that lovely wood finish or the equally impressive Acrylic. In an ideal world the Pro-Ject Perspex 6 is a model I would have loved to own but at over £1500 was way out of my league for a source that is not my main.

I'm really looking forward to setting it up. I've never had a NEW deck before, they've all been 2nd hand over the years. I was so surprised by how much money I got back off my old Rega P3 with assorted bits and bobs, that I decided to change my mind and keep a deck in the house, However this time I wanted one that, as well as sounding good with no tweaking involved, also looked a bit better than the old P3.

BTW the picture in the OP shows a SpeedBox, I've not got one of those with mine.

The only reason for the wood effect is it chimes with cabinet, but acrylic looks good too. When I eventually get around to upgrading my Xpression I'll deffo have a listen to that one.

Well as it happens my new Xperience 2 arrived right on time today complete with Rondo Red MC cart...

..but the only problem is I have the Creek MM phonostage fitted in my 5350 so I had ordered the 2M Blue Xperience 2 package!

There's a difference of about £200 between the price of the two carts and I suppose I would have been well within my rights to keep quiet and carry on regardless. However without going and buying a suitably decent phono amp to play it, it's not much use to me. Also the company I bought the package from had done me a good deal and were very prompt with their delivery, so I've done the honourable thing and informed them of their error, and they are sending me a 2M Blue tomorrow. Unfortunately I will have to send them the Rondo Red back! I suppose some people will say that I should have kept quiet etc. but it was a genuine error and I wouldn't have felt good about taking advantage.

Gutted I wont be able to have a play with it tonight, but had a quick glance at the deck and it looks the business.

If it is any consolation the Rondo red is a high output moving coil and would probably have worked just fine with your phono stage. 🙂

Rondo Red is definitely low output MC. Had the same one on my Project 2Xperience.

Now if it had been a high output cart then I would have had a real moral dilemma.

Nope, first on will be Joe Cocker's Sheffield Steel followed by Al Green's Greatest Hits, my two reference LP's if you like.

Helps a lot when you can get the other half on side. I bought mine around the same time as the living room was being decorated and finished off with various glass and silver coffee tables, lamps and other accessories. "Look dear, the new tt blends in really nicely don`t you think?" 🙂

All set-up now and playing like a dream right from the off. A bit of a faff setting up the new cart, but it's done now so all's well.

Currently playing Joe Cocker's Sheffield Steel, and anyone familiar with the rhythm section of Sly & Robbie will know just how good that can sound.

You know what, it's nearly as good as CD

PS: nearly forgot, I'm using the Pro-Ject supplied interconnects. They seem a really nice, decent quaility pair, not like the bog standard ones you normally get supplied.
