I have not owned vinyl since I was about 14 and my player was a square black box with a speaker in the front and hinge off lid, I bought my first system with CD player sometime in the mid 80's and not looked back.

Having seen the Pro-Ject 3 I am considering dipping my toe just because the turntable looks so sexy, I really need to go listen to an LP back to back with a CD just to make sure I like the sound (Do not think I will not) but just to be sure, how much am I going to need to spend, given that the Genie is around £200, I assume the Jenie 2's are going to be going a bit cheaper will the 3's be worth the extra? MY AV amp has no phono in I will need a phono stage and some cables? How much is that going to cost?

Just need to find a friendly midland based retailer who has some vinyl and a Genie to give me a demo, preferably back to back with a CD player.

I bought a Project Genie 3 with a Ortofon 2M Red cartridge three weeks ago and the sound is amazing. I have been out on a spending spree at the local charity shops snapping up vinyl.

I got mine ny mail order from Audio Affair in Birmingham (they have a showroom) for £170 with the ortofon cartridge. I also bought a cork slipmat to reduce static.

Richer Sounds were selling the Genie 2 for £150 but I though it was worth the extra £20 for a better catridge even though RS is at the bottom of my street and I could have picked it up in person.

I had to send the first back because the motor had a problem and was running too slow, but no problems with it so.

evening....why buy new ? for well under £200 you should be able to get an rpm4 or an expression mk1.

both will blow the genie out the water, better arm, sound quality.

spares are readly available, at a later date when funds are available add a speed box and jobs a good un....

£170 WITH the ortofon cartridge! Wow, that really is a bargain. As a starter deck I wouldn`t have thought you could go wrong at that price. I was waiting for my son to finish University before buying him a turntable but at that price I`m tempted to get it now and put it away.
