Pre/Power Amp
Hi,

I have a Linn Classik and Mission Floor Standing Speakers.

They sound good but I would like to add something to make the sound richer.

Don't really know anything about pre/power amps (if this is the way to go at all?)

Any suggestions please?

Also best thing to put under floor standers on tiles?

I added a Linn LK140 power amp to my classik and it made a significant improvement to the sound quality.

Put granite slabs under the speakers/stands.Either made to measure off ebay or granite chopping boards from Argos if they are big enough (£14.99each) and use discs under your spikes.

Thanks for your reply, where do i get the discs from?

how thick should the granite be?

What sort of tiles, and what's the floor underneath? If it's concrete granite isn't going to do much, and if the tiles are ceramic too it'll do nothing. Trying playing about with the positioning, that often helps.

Then granite isn't going to do anything. Looks like an amp or speaker change, I'm afraid, though do try changing the position of the speakers as this could help.

Monacor spikes - available on fleabay -come with a set of discs to put under the spikes on hard floors.

Tarquinh may well be right about the speaker change though.

I ran my Classik and power through Linn Katans on torlyte stands.Eventually I biamped with two LK140's and fitted the Activ modules to the Katans. Each change brought an improvement.Worth considering stand mounts if you decide to go the speaker change route but definitely an home dem with your floor.

i just want to add a point about floortiles too,i have a fully tiled floor in my listening room and its large,i needed lots of rugs to help with reflection points, wool rugs work well,if you dont you may find you have a very lively room.

I have ordered the Monacar spikes (for the discs) and also a Linn LK140.

All i need now is a good recomendation for a good value cable to link the Classik and the LK140 (not too pricey but good quality)

any ideas?

Thanks for all you suggestions so far.
