Hello All.

Has anyone had the chance to compare the Revolution Signature 5.1 with the Yamaha RX-V3900 and the Pioneer SC-lx81?

I haven't had the chance to demo the speakers yet but really like the Yamaha's tone through some B&Ws. Just wandering if the Tannoys really need all the extra power that the Pioneer has. Will there be any loss of quality with not having so much power available to drive them or is it only a matter of not having the same maximum volume levels?

Many thanks,

CF

The Pioneer/Tannoy combo has been part of one of our Best Buy systems since our Awards in October last year

Thank you both very much.

Not having heard the combination I was thinking that the Pioneer with the Tannoys may be a little too 'bright'. I do enjoy the Yamahas' sound but that was through a B&W set-up however I'm struggling to find anyone in the London area where I can get a demo of the Tannoy/Pioneer pair... oh well, I'll just have to hold on and keep looking.

I really seeking a 5.1 combination that will really shine (as much as an AV amp can) with music through the front pair and as I mentioned I really enjoyed listening to a pair of B&W 684s through a Pioneer DSP-AX863SE. In your opinion will the increased budget only show with the surround or will there be an equal gain on the stereo front too. The last concern I have is if the DC4T front speakers will have the capacity for the room I have (6x6m). I suspect they'll be absolutely fine but I'd appreciate your opinions. Basically, should I continue to hunt-down a demo of the Tannoys with a Pioneer SC-LX81 or stick with B&W/Yamaha?

Thanks again for your help,

CF

It is a big step up. You will hear gains in stereo playback as well as surround sound. Your room is quite large so you could consider DC6's across the front or increasing the subwoofer - I presume you were looking at a TS12 or TS500 from Tannoy.

If you really want to improve the stereo then DC6t's bi-amped would be the way to go. The new SC-LX range of amps are not bright at all although Pioneer amps have been in the past.

I would work on getting a demonstration, the difference will be very apparent.

Hello again.

Thanks for your thoughts ongoing for the DC6Ts at the front, you confirmed my suspicions. I was considering adding the B&W ASW610 sub to the group as well or do you rate the TS12?

Am DEFIANTLY planning to bi-amp the front pair. It would be an opportunity missed not to!

Thanks once again for your thoughts... if only you were a little closer to London! I'll continue my quest for a demo though the combination sounds truly appetising, mmmm!

The TS12 would be my choice although we normally put them out with a Sunfire HRS10 or HRS8.

We are just a train ride away and you will have a great time in Edinburgh for the weekend......
