Power Strip Question

I'd appreciate any feedback on this question. Is it perfectly fine to use a single power strip on/off switch to just cut power to all my electronics with a single button? Basically this is the equivalent of pulling the plugs to turn off the units, rather than using the front panel power buttons.

I don't think turning them off in this way will present a problem but I'd be nervous about turning them back on in that manner. I guess it depends on whether kit has a digital on/off switch, which I think would just revert to an off state after you cut the power. If it was a proper analogue push button power switch I'd be nervous turning the power back on again at a strip.

I have nothing scientific to base this on, but I prefer to switch on and off with the power button, rather than at the socket. The way amps and TVs can 'pop' and 'click' if switched off at the plug seems to be stressing them, somehow, maybe.......

That's my concern as well. I also have no factual basis for my opinion.

Hmmmmm. If the amps/etc have soft start circuits using relays then you shouldn't get any pops....you will get clicks (unless they are solid state). These are the relays switching on to bypass the startup resistors.

If you don't have softstart circuits you'll get a sudden, massive demand for current as the transformers and power supply smoothing capacitors charge up, which may cause the power strip fuse to blow.

That sounds consistent with what I have heard. I have to switch off my amps at the socket as there is no on/off switch. I turn the volume to minimum as that seems to help. If I turn the V8P back on and I had forgotten to turn the volume down I get a funny whoosh noise. Its as if it is filling up with electricity, priming the valves and getting ready to go!

I always turn off my equipment with their power switches (not counting the isolators at the back) then i turn off the power strip master switch. Reverse the process the switch it all back on.
