My system consists of an Arcam 1 cd player, Arcam 5 amp, Yamaha HD1500', and Musical Technology Floorstanders. (Possibly Kestrel not sure. The main system is 13 years old now.

The problem is sound throught one of speakers is at a lower volume than the other. Would that problem be most likely with the speakers or could it be the amplifier. Cables have been changed and problem is still there.

If the speakers could you recommend a replacement pair suitable for the system. I listen to a large range of music and room is 3m by 3m.

Thanks.

Consider swapping just the speakers positions around. If the fault transfers, its the speaker; if not and appears on the same side as before, then that point towards the amp.

Hope this helps.

It might be worth making sure it's not room furnishings that aren't causing this. If you have heavier furnishings on one side, it could collect more of the sound than the other speaker if it's in a more open space. Also, if the louder one is nearer to a wall, reflection from that wall might make the other speaker seem louder. Also, is there a huge difference in the length of your cable? I have experienced a duller sound in one cable that was much longer than the other. Just a possibility.

Oh, and try the same trick with your interconnects as your speakers - it could be a slightly dingy cable.
