Polish marks on an LCD

I have recently been given an LCD TV but the screen had been scratched, the previous owner had polished it out but where it has been polished the matte finish has been made shiny, so when any light source shines on it (i.e. watching the TV during the day) you can see where it has been polished. I have read that you can spray a clear matte lacquer on it but I am not sure if I will end up doing more damage than good. Has anyone had any experience with this? if so do you know where I can get a clear lacquer spray from. Bit of an odd post I know, but if anyone can help I would very much appreciate it. Thanks
