Please help with choices for 2.1 Speaker package

hi, i am looking at getting a 2.1 speaker package to go with my new tv. my budget is anything up to £250. would i be right in thinking that all 2.1 systems have an active amp that also powers the speakers?
any suggestions would be much appreciated.

What TV do you have, I know that some of the manufaturers make 2.1 systems to match the styling of the TV (such as the Sony LCD's)

If it were me I'd save a few more pounds and consider the Yamaha HTY-760 sound projector (with built in amplifier). You could upgrade it at a later date by adding a subwoofer.
