Hi, I finally decided to make the leap to Sorround Sound and have been looking for a reciever when I came across the Onkyo TX-SR674E which won 'What Home Cinema Award 2007' and 'Home Cinema Choice Best Reciever Under £1000'. I don't know if I should go for the TX-SR674E or the TX-SR505. Could somebody please help me and thank you for taking the time to read this post.
was it not the SR605 that won that award?
It was certainly the TX-SR605 that won Product of the Year in the 2007 What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision Awards. Haven't come across the TX-SR674E as such. Are you sure you've got the correct model number?

Sorry, my mistake. I had to look very closely, and it says it was nominated for best reciever under £1000 in the 'HOME CINEMA CHOICE' awards and the 'WHAT HOME CINEMA' awards. It came second to the Sony STR DA5200ES in the 'HOME CINEMA CHOICE' awards, I don't know where it came in the 'WHAT HOME CINEMA' awards.

Choppy you can get the STR-DA5200ES for £400. And its a cracking 5.1 amp - I upgraded to it from an Onkyo 505, and before that I had anSTR-DA 1200ES which I also thought was better than the 505.

Hi, thank you all for your replies, they have been of great help. I have decided to stretch my budget and go for the Onkyo TX-SR605, the main reson is the fact that I have read the review from What hifi sound and vision over and over and think it sounds fantastic. I have also decided to get rid of my Rotel RA-04, put the money towards the Onkyo TX-SR605 and buy the rest of the Monitor Audio BR2 speaker package. I may live to regret this but I am going to be using it for music aswell and I LOVE the sound of the BR2s I have.

P.S. If anybody wants a Rotel RA-04, you know who's selling one. In original box, no marks, perfect condition.

The last amp I had before my current Kandy was the RA-04, and would I'd be interested to hear from you how the 605 compares re Hi Fi quality sound. All the best and hope it works out for you.

I will let you know how it goes, I am using the same speakers as I have now so only the amp is being changed which should prove to be interesting. The RA-04 is VERY good, I can't believe i'm going to get rid of it but I suppose I could always get another one for music if needs be. I think the TX-SR605 will be pretty good for music though so i'm not too worried.
