Hello all, I have the following two components that don't seem to be getting on too well.

Samsung SMT-2110C - Virgin Cable T.V. Receiver/Box

Yamaha DSP - E800 - AV Surround processor

The Samsung cable tv box is connected to the Yamaha AV processor by the three wire audio/video connection via an adapter on the Samsung boxes scart output. They are also joined for digital sound using a fibre optic link from the SPIDF connection.

The problem: I am getting no sound or vision from this set-up whatsoever. However, I also have a Panasonic DVD recorder connected to both and the signal traveling from the Samsung box throught the DVD recorder to the Yamaha AV processor gives both sound and vision to the T.V. The T.V. is a conventional tube type (Sony something or other, 32" and about 8 years old).

So, does anyone have any ideas? Anyone come across this before? Any help is mush appreciated. Oh, and just to help, the Missus has tidied away my folder with all the instruction manuals in so I can't check that either!

Regards,

RortyCorty

The three-wire connection on a Scart adapter usually carries composite video and stereo left/right audio, but even if it's a Scart to RGB adapter it will be carrying RGB video rather than the component video the Yamaha is expecting.

I'd stick to a direct Scart connection to your TV, and look in the sound menus of the Samsung Virgin box to see whether there is an item to turn optical digital on and off.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I've been trying for ages to locate a sensible technical manual for this STB and got nowhere at all.

The adapter and AV processor input are the yellow composite and red/white stereo sound channels.

I know what you mean about info on the set top box, there's absoloutely nothing out there!

It's starting to look like I'm going to have to. More blumin cables! Can you get 10m scart leads? (I have young kids, the Hi-Fi etc... is all safely locked away behind the 'iron curtain' or stairgate as there more comonly known at the other end of the room.)

Cheers.
