I am wanting to buy the Pioneer Kuro 42 inch plazma TV.

After looking there are two types: PDP-428XD or PDP-4280XD

What is the difference betwen them?

Also I noted with the 50 inch Pioneer Kuro PDP-LX5080D that there is optional side speakers. This does not seem to be the case for both 42 inch versions - integrated under mounted speakers. This creates a problem as the under mounted speaker ruins the look of the TV to me - side speakers look much better - is there any way the 42 inch model can have detachable speakers.

If not I have to try for another 42 inch Plazma - this will be difficult as I am aware that nothing can compete with the Kuro range - any suggestions?

Is the Paasonic Viera TH42Z85B any good as the Kuro range? It is a lot cheaper so I suspect not.

Advice on any above much appreciated.

Thanks

the difference is minimal, the 428 will have a little more options, picture in picture and onboard video thingy. but both have everything else identical.

i think you will also find that the 50in versions do not have side speakers, but have a detachable speaker on the bottom, unlike the 42in versions. i have the 5080xd and the reason was because i didnt like the look with the speaker attached. i wanted the picture frame look.i have it wall mounted and mounted the speaker behind the tv. it looks and sounds superb. spend the extra cash is my advice.

also the xd models are not full hd. but superb pictures nethertheless..

The Pioneer 428 and 508 ranges are last years models. Very few of the 42" left. The panny would be a good second best.

the 422 come with the speaker as part of the TV. the 50"s do not come with any speakers. But side or bottom mounted can be bought as extras.

the 0 in the number means that you can not pay a Man to come out and set up your TV but only use the presets.

Kind of missed the boat on the 42" Pioneers. Will be lucky to find any new, 'A' grade, non-demo sets left for sale. Either go for a Panasonic or wait until Pioneer's new Panasonic-based 42" plasma tv's likely to appear late next year.
