Hi

I converted all my cds to flac files (loseless) and keep them on an external hard disk (USB). How can i play them without having to connect my pc to my home stereo receiver (have an old but good NAD receiver).

Is there any device that can act as both a sound card and storage for the files that can connect to the receiver via regular audio plugs (RCA) and maintain high sound quality (at least similar quality to a cd player) AND will have lcd display for showing folders and songs?

Thanks for an advise,

Tal

Believe you would be looking at a streamer/ storage device of some kind. They do exist but tend to be be expensive.

Then again you could just employ an old iPod Classic.....

What sort of budget did you have in mind?

Sounds like a job for the Squeezebox Touch to me. Have to buy used i'm afraid and no doubt fiddle about with the software but could be quite pricey unless you are lucky.

Will play from a USB drive and has a screen for navigation, good sound from the onboard dac too.

To be honest, transfering and correctly formating your library to a network drive might be worthwhile, gives you more options on the streamers front.

On the other hand, just buy a cheap laptop and play the songs from there, just copy them and use your media player of choice, at least the control interface will be decent. You might need an outboard dac but they are not expensive.
