Playing a SACD through my Audiolab 6000A play

Hello

I have a Sony ubp-x800m2 and a Audiolab 6000A Play . I'd like to hear a SACD through my AL amp in 2.0 channel form, I know the SACD only outputs through HDMI and the AL doesn't have that input, so any ideas of how this would be possible? Would I need some adaptor? I know the internal DAC in the AL can handle DSD audio.

Well, really the 800m2 I believe is basically a transport, if I remember correctly it doesn't have an internal dac.
So you' ll need an outboard dac with an HDMI input as fair as im aware there are no converters.

If you're just playing about and having a bit of fun a second hand AVR will be the cheapest solution loads on ebay for around the 100/200 quid mark if not cheaper. Something like an Anthem 300mrx would be good shout and may actually sound better than you audiolab (just saying) absolute belter of an amp.

Yes, it has a digital output but this will not send DSD data from SACD disc.
both devices would require an I2S interface to transmit PCM data and not many have this facility, I can think only of PS Audio amplifiers

You could try old sacd dvd players like that from pioneer, 20-50quid they output over coax I believe. Think the 565a is the model number. Probably not full fat but would give you the flavour

Might be worth checking out this thread over on the Steve Hoffman forums, But, the easiest way as already mentioned is to buy a a cheap second hand Sony Blu ray player. I'd recommend a Sony BDP-S490 or a Sony BDP-S570 (I own both), because of their....er "flexibility"

This method will not output PCM unfortunately

I think you're getting confused as to what I'm suggesting. By buying another cheap, second hand Sony blu-ray player, then all the original poster needs to do, is run a phono cable from the back of the stereo out of the said player and plug the other end into a spare analogue socket on the back of the 6000A. Cost? If the ebay gods are smiling less than £50.

I own a Sony UBP-800 MK2 so I know it's abilities and limitations. And about the hoops you have to jump through with SACD hence the suggestion. It's the option which requires the least amount of jumping. (I also own a now faulty Pioneer DV-565a, a Denon DBP-2012 (relegated to playing stereo SACD because I had to replace the entire power board when it went bang! when I turned it on one morning) , a Sony UHP-H1 (used in a bedroom system) and have used a Marantz DV-7001 (which was a bundle of rubbish as it clicked on track changes on SACDs) and Marantz -UD7007 (which did the same) , so I'm pretty familiar with SACD playback in all its glory)

Thanks, I think that is the solution, by a cpaable dvd player with SACD output via RCA, so much for reducing boxes!

Couple things to note; if you buy either of the Sony players I've suggested is that there is a remote control clash with your UDP-800MK2. They all use the same RC5 codes. Doesn't bother me because they are different rooms. Second, you need to set the player to default to the SACD layer and then tell it to default to the Stereo / 2 channel rather than the 5.1 option - as below
