God this is a nightmare. Looking to finally upgrade my surround sound system. Have 43" Samsung HD Plasma and Panasonic Blu Ray, Sky HD and PS3 Slim. Have crappy Mission FS1 speakers and an EPOS ELS subwoofer. Looking to replace speakers also, but not the sub.

Was originally looking at Onkyo but was warned off due to reliability. Was told to look at the Pioneer and Yamaha. Have a budget of no more than £450.00. Would value peoples opinions on this one. I do like the idea of pioneer, but purely from brand awareness. HELP!!!!

Mjg060468,

In my opinion, the Yamaha 667 is a better amp than the Pioneer 920.

Ronald

Edit : I listened to the 608, 667 & 920 with a KEF 3005SE package and the 608 came out tops for me with the 667 next. To my ears the 920 was not even in contention. It simply lacked the drive or dynamics to excite me.

I'd say it depends on which speakers you're looking to go for....

Onkyo have had one or two reliability issues in the past with certain models, but the sub £500 price point has never really been a problem. Buy with confidence.

Thank you. Looking at the KEF KHT1005.2.

So if you are saying Onkyo ok, Out of:

[*]Pioneer VXS 920
[*]Yamaha RX-V667
[*]Onkyo TX-SR608

Which one with the speaker package I am looking at.

Is it worth upgrading to the 2005's

Well the best I ever heard the KEF KHT2005's were with the Onkyo 606/607 (can't remember which one), so the 608 should be a good match for the 1005's. And yes, the 2005's are much better if you can strecth to them.
