Hi, please help!

My Pioneer PDP-LX5090 has shut off 3/4 times in a week leaving the blue LED in the bottom left blinking, Ive had to power off at the wall and turn back on, occasionally this fails to work and when switching power back to the screen i'll get the red LED you would expect, only for it to switch back to the blinking blue LED Ill try again off at wall, wait a few minuits and back on, and it can be ok?

Is this some kind of overheat?- It flashes 8 times then a pause and repeats? is the blinking bluey indicating a particular fault/Error code?,i cant find anything in the troubleshooting of the manual.

Would appreciate any help with this, ive tried searching for related threads but found nothing recent or similar and was pointed this direction by a helpfull reply from another guy,I have had a year and a half trouble free excellence up untill 2 weeks ago? Bit concerned is all

Ta, Many thanks

Dan

Hello Dan,

I'd get straight on the phone to Pioneer, although you may not get a response untill monday. Do you have the tv wall mounted above a fire? Is it situated near any other heat source, ie; a radiator etc?

I have mine on all day from 8 in the morning till at least 23:30 and yes it does get hot but not so it cuts out. It sounds like from what you've wrote it may be a safety cut out. Don't quote me on that as i'm no expert on tv's and i've never read or seen anything like this on the LX5090 happen before.

Are you still under warranty?

Have you been on the Pioneer web page and looked at the Q&A in the support section?

Hi Dan,

Only had this happen the once after trying to update the Freeview EPG. It got so far and then just froze, then switched off and the LED started flashing blue - about the same number as you state. I switched the power switch off (the one underneath) and left it 5 mins and powered back on - mine has been OK for the last 6 months plus.

Hope you get sorted.

Regards Si.

The TV is wall mounted but not near any heat sources, i have about 4 icnh stand off from the wall so ventilation should be ok? Has been fine here for nearly two years.

A guy from another forum has also suggested poss issue with the freeview, but i use a sky digibox for my TV so am still unsure, the set is under 5 year guarantee so if it comes to it im covered, Fingers crossed it wont come to that , has been ok since friday? wierd! the thought of losing my beloved for what could be weeks dosn't bare thinking about!!!

It sounds like it's trying to check for software updates and/or update the clock automatically and failing - or trying to update its list of digital channels. You can set it so it doesn't do this - unfortunately my KRP500 has a slightly different menu structure, so can't give you chapter and verse on this...
EDIT: For what it's worth - on my TV it's accessed under:

Home Menu - Setup - DTV Setup - Software Update

Then select "Auto Update" and set to Off.

EDIT 2: Ignore the above - I'd missed the "Shutting down" bit. In this case, unplug your TV completely, leave it unplugged for a few minutes, plug it in and see if that cures the problem...

Cheers, Im not using the DTV within the PDP-LX5090, Im watching TV through a sky digibox, I did check the DTV settings in the menu you suggested but 'DTV setup' is not available for selection? im guessing because its not active/being used?

Powering off/on does indeed solve the problem short term, but the prob can return 3/4 days later? It has been ok since friday gone (Touch wood !) a strange one indeed.

Any other thoughts appreciated

Exactly the same with my set up and again the DTV set up isn't available.

There is a way to access the DTV menu, I did it, but have forgotten.

But there was at least one previous posting on WHF for this, so check the posting history for Pioneer DTV etc

Ta, I dont use the DTV but have been directed this route via another forum?, i have checked DTV settings and all i can change is Aerial power on/off which is set to off as it should be as i am watching TV through a SKY digibox, no aerial is connected ? Not only that but its been fine for 2 years !

The fault has returned yesterday after a week

so ive contacted pioneer, Engineer calling Friday.

Out of all my pioneer kit, this is the second of three to start playing up! I have allready replaced my massively unreliable BDP-320 player last year and now this, I love my 5090 like you wouldn't belive but my confidence in the brand is dropping sharply

Will see how Pioneer customer services handle this, But would i buy Pioneer again ???

Seems like you've had a bit of bad luck so far, hopefully the problem with the tv is simple and the engineer gets things fixed for you.

I haven't had a problem with my Pioneer stuff, I've had my LX 5090 and 51FD around 18 months and the amp since September and i'm very happy with there performance so far.

Hope you get a result soon

I just hope it can be fixed, as far as i know there are still no TV's that can touch the Kuro's.nothing is going to be as good ! maybe im getting ahead of myself, ill worry about that if it comes to it

FINGERS CROSSED !!

Great news, I have a working 5090

Had two engineers turn up and they replaced the input/audio PCB on site after trying another PCB first.

Well chuffed

I have to say the engineers were great, they came from J.F Associates - friendly, very profesional, competent, as you would hope really, i have read some horror stories about various peoples experiences with these approved repair engineers but i could not fault these guys

Very pleased indeed ! cheers for everybodys help and advice on here, very much appreciated

Thank the lord for that Warranty
