Can anyone tell me if there is supposed to be electronic switching on this set with hdmi, just like scart swiching did on all tv's ? Since i've had this set for two years now i've never known it to swich on to a hdmi input when you press play on a blu-ray for instance..is this correct ? Someone asked me the question because it does not do it on his set (not pioneer) and this got me wondering.

No, there's no trigger-switching on HDMI as there was with Scart.

It's possible to get the switch you're after using variations on the HDMI CEC control protocol - which you'll find under various proprietary names such as Sony's Bravia Sync, Panasonic's Viera Link and Toshiba's Regza Link, for example -, but these tend only to work with HDMI CEC-capable products of the same brand, and don't conform to any standard.
