I have still got my 5090. A VT50 with 5 year guarantee is tempting, as is the GT50...but I just can't go through with it. My combo of 5090 with LX71 blu ray player cannot be beaten for picture. I still get excited about watching a new movie on it. Not sure I would get that with anything else!!

I have been tempted by either the GT50 or VT50, but from what I have seen, they are only fractionally better (if at all) than my LX508D picturewise, and so no improvement on your KRP 500A.

Internet connectivity is obviously the main plus point, and 3D, but I'm not bothered by 3D, and I'm not too worried about the internet through my tv either.

The main reason I'll be sticking with the Kuro though is my wife.

No, still got more than 2 years on the warranty, so it'll be hanging around for a while yet, hopefully by that time the technologies will have settled down a bit.

I don't think the techologies will ever settle down completely. There will always be some new technology on the horizon.

I too will ideally wait until the warranty period expires & see what's in the market then.

Yeah I'm thinking more about the "smart" features and all the internet portal stuff, rather than screen tech, I doubt OLED will be affordable in two years and I have doubts surrounding the blue lifespan.

Hmmmm,

Over here in Saudi I've moved my front room around and I'm now sat over 5m from my 50 inch Kuro, sort of loses it's impact a bit. Seen a Sharp Aquos LC-70LE735M (2D only) set in the shops, mighty impressive with the footie it was showing, no signs of motion handling issues.

Tempted to relegate the Kuro to another room and get this 70 inch monster, can't find any decent reviews anywhere though. Doesn't look like we'll be getting the Panasonic 65VT50 or 65ST50 anytime soon here either, these guys are still flogging the VT30.

Anyone got any experience of these Sharp monsters and would care to share?

WHF, ever reviewed one?

Cheers.

Agreed. All the current "smart" stuff is pedestrian IMO. This will change once Google TV & Apple iTV come into the ring.

I'm still happy with my hard sought KRP500, still got warranty left, so in no hurry to get rid of it, and the picture's pretty awesome!

Thinking about a new 40" for the dining room, when the finances recover, maybe even 3D.

Anyway, I fear I will have to wait a while before my financial controller agrees with replacing the Kuro..

I won't be changing until mine doesn't work anymore still got 3+ years on guarantee nothing that Panasonic has done has my interest. What does have my interest 21:9 , Sharp Elite (not even hit europe) , LG OLED / ULTRA DEF , Apples foray into TV's. Nothing that's been established or hit the right price point yet, so while the Kuro works i'm quite happy biding time and happy that's is as good as anything around at the moment. As for 3D i have decided that i don't mind it at the Cinema as a bit of a change now and then but on the home front i'm in no rush and TBH not bothered about it.

I'm not totally convinced that Panasonic will be able to sustain making TV's and i see the join up with Sony as part of that particular decline..... if they get their act together then maybe they will but i think LG + Samsung are the leaders now and it will be interesting to see how Apple do. As Apple will be using Sharp i don't foresee a european equivolent of the Elite which i find a bit disappointing but you never know maybe they will.

I've held a belief for a good few years now that if your TV doesn't last 7 years you brought the wrong one either that or your loaded. :)

One reason to possibly change from the Pioneer Kuro is that the new Panasonic plasma televisions (ST50, GT50 and VT50 series) will have black levels as good as or better than the last (ninth) generation Kuro, and will have Freeview HD (and the GT50 and the VT50 will also have Freesat HD), whereas the Kuros have only Freeview. I do now notice that the Freeview HD channels on my Samsung in the parlour seem quite good and sharp, so I assume that they would also be good on the new Panasonic plasmas. I also notice that viewing the Freesat HD channels from my Humax on the Samsung gives sharper pictures than viewing those same Freesat HD channels on the Pioneers, so again I assume that the new Panasonics would also be sharper at showing the Freesat HD from the Humax than the Pioneers are.

Has anyone sold their Kuro yet? And why? Are you happy with your new purchase?

Sold my Pioneer for a number of reasons in the end, one being screen burn of which is a long story.

I also never fully was 100 per cent happy with it - due to slight clicking noise, which Pioneers tended to do from my experience and others. And it would have meant wall mounting to go in my setup.

I liked the reviews by WHF and and AVForums, and also the comments made by Steve Withers of AVForums on his comparison of the Pioneer Lx 5090 against the GT50, of which he concluded that he would have been happy with either. I wanted better black levels than my Sony and wanted something to match my Pioneer, so the GT50 matched up very well. Had a demo in John Lewis and was impressed, got it home and was seriously impressed!

Well, seven days since I declared that I'd be sticking with the Kuro, John Lewis offer up a GT50 for £950.

What is a bloke supposed to do with that kind of temptation?

I'll tell you what he does, he waits for his wife to go to another department (she got bored quite quickly), then he only goes a buys it.

Delivering Thursday, 5 year guarantee, £950. Lovely

50" Ben, Kuro will have to go as I need to recoup some money. I will miss it though.

Wow - nice one! I did see one in the clearance sale at my local John Lewis for that, also a Sharp 60 inch for £650 - I was tempted for a second TV.
smiley-smile.gif
Did you get the 3D glasses too?

This was clearance gel, but not a mark on it, and 5 year guarantee included means I can't really go wrong.

I had been looking at getting a WD TV Live for around £80, and I probably won't need that now. Hopefully will get around £600 for the Kuro, so kind of a net spend of £270 for a virtually brand new tv with 5 year guarantee. I just had to buy it, and the wife isn't too miffed either as it's Panasonic (Japanese).

Would've been divorce if I'd bought a Samsung though

No 3D glasses though (I don't think), but I don't have a 3D blu ray player, or Sky 3D anyway.

3D really doesn't bother me.

If I had the money, I'd be seriously inclined to offer you £600 for your Kuro, or alternatively £500 for your Kuro AND your wife!
