Was contemplating Panasonic 37LZD85 or 800 and noticed this one in the shop.

Stood out a bit and was £860 inc 5 yr warranty.....however was unsure for various reasons

1) Pioneer specialise in plasmas so not sure if just getting a renamed Sharp at higher cost (nothing against Sharp here)

2) Review was 4 stars versus 5 for my other considerations...was review driven by a £1500 price tag?

3) mentions that you cant get 1080p through component so older x boxes affected. I have a newer X box with HDMI so I dont think this is an issue?

Welcome any feedback from owners

Thanks

Whose the warranty with? Pioneer are about to withdraw from the TV market, announcements expected on 12th Feb (Pioneer annual results due then). So maybe best to wait and see what happens.

Just to be clear, there is no certainty that Pioneer is about to withdraw - it's just one possibility the company says it's considering - and of course existing owners would continue to be supported even if it did make a decision to end its involvement in TV sales.

I got the 32" version of this yesterday and, having spent about 4 or 5 hours playing with it, can safely say it's the most impressive LCD I've ever seen. The glossy 'high contrast filter' really does make all the difference. On the negative side, this does open up the problem of reflectivity but no more than you'd get with a plasma panel. But still, the positives make this minor annoyance worth it. The colours are tremendous - vibrant, yet natural and subtle and the black levels are simply leagues ahead of the competition, especially if you're viewing with a little ambient light in the room. Move to HD and the results are unbelievable. I watched some of the 'I, Robot' Blu-ray from my Sony BDP-S350 and the picture was terrific with ultra-smooth motion at 24Hz (I believe this TV plays back 24Hz material at 72Hz).

OK, it isn't as good as the latest generation of Pioneer plasmas but, then again, what is? Pioneer clearly haven't phoned these LCDs in and, given they're now competitively priced, you can't really go wrong if you haven't got room for a 50" screen.
