LX88 looks like a bad boy player - if anyone uses the analogue outs for stereo its well worth a demo.

I think it will trump the oppos but will have to wait and see

I'd very much doubt that, looking at specs / cost, but whatever I'm sticking with my 105eu.

There's absolutely no reason to change your Reference Status Oppo 105EU until 4K Blu-Ray machines become available - I mean ones that play 4K Blu-Ray discs, not impostors that (quite unnecessarily, since the television or projector will do it at least as well) merely upscale lower-resolution content to 4K.

Gel, no point in buying LX91. The last firmware update for the player was in August 2013. Pioneer is under no obligation to support it beyond 5 years (the player was launched in 2009). Now that Pioneer has sold its AV business to Onkyo, you can safely assume that no more updates will be forthcoming. There's no guarantee that future blu ray discs will work.

veryone who I have spoken too saidf this player is amazing in everyway, all the reviews have been outstanding except for the one from whathifi for some reason for the audio part while playing music.

Everyone said one burn in took place it went to a different level and some people have left their OPPO for the 88 or purchased both. If you want real specs you need to g to the japan website and translate it to get all the details. I will post some review commenst below. I have not purchased it as yet but soon.

Reading into the reason why they made the player they way they did they added you can change the sound depending what genre your listening too, not sure whathifi did this during their review also ofcourse they reccomended pairing it up with their flag ship receiver to get the full benefits.

I hope the reviewer of this player on whathifi reads this so i can ask him/her some questions on the audio. the link below is the reason why they made the player they way they did.

Whatifhifi gave the 88FD 4 stars its a rather mixed review from all the other great reviews I have read but still good. Here are some conclusion quotes from 6 other professional reviews. These were all translated on google into english.

1.[/b] Pioneer BDP-LX88 celebrated with the comeback of high quality upper-class Blu-ray player - and how: With the best D / A converter circuits technology and high quality of the audio portion sets new standards. With phenomenal picture in Full HD upscaled image content and excellent De-Interfacing- / upscaling of SD sources result itself the BDP-LX88 can gather the BDP-sovereign competition behind. It is expensive, that's true, and not without drawbacks. He does not always respond very quickly to the operating instructions that were given to the remote, loading HiRes audio files over network could work faster and the bearing of the drive tray fail quality. But far away from this small criticisms brilliant high-tech player with high reliability, excellent workmanship, lush connector assembly and tollemm Video EQ with three memory locations for individual adjustments. Which is, however, little need because the predefined frames are absolute top class.

Audiovisual marked the BDP-LX88 sovereign new records. In addition, fine workmanship and excellent facilities

2.[/b]Blu-ray player in the four-digit euro area generally valid for audiophile precious forging in the program."
"The fact that the drive is encapsulated in such a high-end player that goes without saying. Not, of course, is the ingenious spring-damping mechanism which ensures that the drive does not have direct contact with the body and therefore can not transmit vibrations."
"At the superb picture quality with Blu-ray films, there is nothing to complain about: the colors do like the sharpness and the clean tracing of light and dark motives."
"The DVD-frame conversion of the Pioneer totally convinced even the most difficult scenes succeed clean in the auto mode."
"The strong, silent type - in the case of soft rotating drive it is also the key to good sound that impresses on all outputs equally with fantastic resolution."

Conclusion:
"The BDP-LX88 delivers one perfect picture and sound quality as well as its superior tactile feel."
With 45 out of 45 points for the image quality and 10 out of 10 for the sound quality is the Pioneer BDP-LX88 actually new standards and meets the requirement "premium Pioneer" fully.
"Very Good" with 89 out of 100 points is the av-rating, to reach the BDP-LX88 the predicate "HIGHLIGHT".

3.[/b]" Inside, the three- chamber design that stands out: Pioneer has digital and analog area and the power supply are separated to avoid interference The massive structure has a positive effect in the volume development, because the player runs almost silently . even when using the Blu - ray Disc . "
" The BDP- LX88 is a true miracle compatibility " .
" The BDP- LX88 can upscale video on UltraHD and he makes enormous good. "
" Still, it impresses particularly in conjunction with XXL projections can provide what natural and detailed picture of the BDP- LX88 experience .
Conclusion:
" The BDP- LX88 is a device for audiophile home theater enthusiasts ."
" HIGHLIGHT " 4.5 out of 5 stars for image quality and maximum rating of the equipment.

4.[/b]"In the test Cinema Pioneer made a good figure and navigated in contrast to earlier devices of the brand very quickly Genial are the new keys to short jump in the current piece What struck after just a few bars with music.. He sounded vivid and alive than be Racknachbar from Oppo. At the point should see their mission as meeting the developers. This audiophile projection was preserved in all the media. "
"In the image of DVD and Blu-ray could not be faulted: Pioneer typical he was quiet, plastic and crisp sharp subjects without blemish."
Conclusion:
"Is the Pioneer BDP-LX88 is the ultimate player? Everyone needs to decide for themselves. Sonically, there should be nothing to date, making him tops. As a universal player physical media it may also everything that goes on today. Also in picture quality he played with the "big boys". Excellent is the build quality. What more could you want? "
605 of 685 points thus catapulting the Pioneer BDP-LX88 directly into the top class of the leaderboard, plus a "very good" for the price / performance and the overall rating, and then the predicate "HIGHLIGHT"!

5.[/b]audiophil & universal "
"Pioneer BDP-LX88 is the crowning glory of the Blu-ray player-development of the Japanese The workmanship is excellent, the sound so clear and tidy as the layout of the robust front panel Clever:.. The front panel of the tray closes the drive with spring hermetically ".
"The finest engineering: the chassis of the Pioneer consists in important places like the base of a damping multilayer sandwich and many internal stiffeners."
"Even the look of the image quality in the first round, the testers noticed a characterological difference in sound between the two rivals, who had already announced via HDMI. The Pioneer sounded simple clear and somewhat light-footed as the Oppo. This remained on closer examination with different media from the CD and SACD to be streamed from the server high-bit music files like that. The Oppo always sounded at first sight somewhat more detail, the second listening, but the same amount of fine structures of the Pioneer was again, but sounding dynamic and spatially tidier. "
"Pioneer focuses a little more, sounding fantastic, clear as a bell and space."

Conclusion:
"Toll-quality, pure bred on sound quality Blu-ray universal player. He offers streaming via DLNA, balanced stereo outputs, acts quickly and quietly, sounding crystal clear, delicate and very musical."
110 points, an "Outstanding" in the general description and the price / performance, and on top of the title as a new REFERENCE Editor's Choice!

6.[/b] The Pioneer BDP-LX88 flagship blu-ray player is now in store and what a player it is. Pioneer have always been at the top of the class with video playback but with BDP-LX91 discontinued several years ago the all new BDP-LX88 was long overdue. The build quality is the first thing that grabs you -the Oppo 105D ( my main recommendation at this level) is not exactly cheap of build but for the price point the Pioneer raises the bar way beyond the competition. In terms of pride of ownership I can only see the Primare BD32 mk2 surpassing the BDP-LX88 as a universal player to desire.

Set up is a breeze with all requests from the remote occurring instantly – no frustrating wait. The same goes for disc playback – on the discs we tested loading time is one of the fastest we have seen. Picture quality is stunning as you would expect at this price point. On our entry level 4k Panasonic TV the image takes on a high end quality that you wouldn’t expect. Moving the unit on to our premium display and the Panasonic TX-65AX902 clearly demonstrates what a top end source and a top end display can achieve. No slouch with HD tv or a basic blu-ray player the TX-65AX902 is transformed with the Pioneer. Finally the Pioneer BDP-LX88 finds a home in our cinema system and driving the Sony VPL-HW500es the player is right at home with the reference level performance on offer.

For bluray playback, there will be no difference between the the pioneer or my Denon 3313 or a £50 player. I guarantee it... For DVD playback and music, then there will be differences. I would say the oppo with darbee will produce a better DVD pcture than the pioneer too.

i agree with big brother, no point spending this type of money with 4k players coming out next year.

With 4K blu ray player being launched later this year, I don't see much point in spending £1400 on a blu ray player now.

i don't see the need to spend over £200, its now just a waiting game for the next chapter in the blu-ray saga...
