 Hi fellow audio freaks. I need your valuable opinion on this: 😛ray:

Should I swap a Pioneer A-400 (refurbished) for a Rotel RA-980BX? Both are quite bright sounding amps (Oriental frenzy :rockout🙂 and the Rotel is built with higher quality components and has 100WPC at 8ohms and 1000 damping factor. However the A400 has a beefier laminated transformer to put up with inneficient speakers, where as the Rotel has a torroidal 320VA transf. and stores its power in 4 large coupling caps, possibly an issue for speakers such as vintage ARs. The A400 has the Super Linear Circuit and Clean Ground System.... :?

My main speakers are Tannoy DC1000.

If you would do the swap would you pay additional 70 euros for the Rotel on top of the Pioneer? Is it worth it?

Rick I need you bb. :help:

Cheers

50/50, your call if you want to have a change.

Never heard an a400 sound any good despite its paid for glowing reviews, Rotel can also be a bit hit n miss but i doubt a step backwards and probably more power will help.

Find one of the bigger or just more modern cambridge amps or build your own or go chinese.

Clearly you're an expert on corrupt audio journalism. No doubt you have insider information you daren't share with us. But can I ask one simple question? Obviously if your life is in danger by answering it, do not answer! All those thousands of people who bought the A400 (and other products with 'sponsored' ratings, let's call them), were they paid to rave about it too? Or was it just the corrupt HiFi mags? A few ex-users on here still rave about the A400...are they still receiving back-handers from Pioneer, or do you think that will have stopped now after 20 years?

I fully understand if you dare not tell us.
