it's a superb, five-star set, but we wouldn't say it's the very best - and it's getting a little long in the tooth now, too: you can get a more modern spec for your money these days.
We'd go for the new Panasonic TX-32LZD80, the older TX-32LMD70 if you want a bargain, or the Samsung LE32R87BD. But not the Philips - it's just too pricey compared to the latest sets.
No they don't. For now I'd suggest it's most sensible to keep such recorders separate - at least until we find out what the requirements will be for Freeview HD.
at the moment i don't have any record facility as I was still using a misibushi video until recently. can you recommend a machine to record that i can purchase at the same time?
If you want DVD recording, too, I'd suggest the Samsung DVD-HR753 is a good budget buy, at about £200. Or the Panasonic DMR-EX77 is even better at £100 more.
If you just want hard disk recordings, I've seen good results from the 250GB TVonics DVR-FP250, at about £180, or the 160GB DVR-FP160, which is £30 less.
The company also has the DVR-FP2500/1600, which are slightly more expensive but allow you to record two channels at once.
