The Oppo? However, at the moment active speakers are out for me unless someone has a decent preamp with balance control.

I'd have to check whether it has balance control and input for turntableThe Oppo?
Does anyone know if the current actives still use the same amplifier plates as when they came out?
I fail to see them producing active speakers for the same price as current passive
Shame about the bolts. Gold always looks tacky as ****
The AE1 Actives are in progress, likely for a launch at Bristol '26 with stock to follow a little later. The amps in the current version have been unchanged from launch.
It's definitely a "warming over" of the current model rather than a clean slate design, they've been going strong for around 7 years and were always intended as a long term model. The tweaks will include new versions of the bass driver and tweeter but still in hardened aluminium. Amps will be basically unchanged with some small adjustments to improve dynamics and the addition of an auto standby mode with red/white LED. Visually they'll be marginally slimmer/taller, drive units closer together as is our current way and toying with more regular open grain wood finish rather than gloss lacquer. Much of this is to improve performance and freshen up while maintaining a similar price point, nothing concrete until nearer production though!
Sorry Jim, but AE speakers have seemed to bypass my past demos. Certainly a good brand....
...if you ever need anybody to do a review on the back of an extended, in-home, user listening test Jim, then y'know, I'm here!
I know my old Audio-T used to sell AE speakers, otherwise I'm not sure where locally they stock AE speakers. It's ok, it happens! We're in a lot more dealers nowadays than we have been for a long time, easier to randomly stumble across in a demo than we might have been before!
Haha, I'll bear it in mind, you never know! 😉 I never got on with the AE22's but some people loved them - WHF did yet Paul Messenger had them and said he didn't fancy reviewing them as it wouldn't be kind! They were a very specific use design by our old engineers, comparable to Yamaha NS10's, in the right location (designed to work above a meter bridge) could sound very accurate and detailed, in free space the upper bass/lower mid was too lean and they took on a nasal, metallic quality. Very room dependent!
nor do i know where they're available in the Northern Tundra of Aberdeenshire ?I know my old Audio-T used to sell AE speakers, otherwise I'm not sure where locally they stock AE speakers.
What?New Acoustic Energy AE1 40th Anniversary speakers now available for £1499.
I am seriously considering a pair as I am old enough to remember how good the originals were and never did get around to owning them.
