Patience, or lack of...

It's the same thing, every time I sit down with music on. Listening, wondering, waiting. Questioning, getting frustrated.... The time it takes for your system to warm up.

Think it's taken a good half hour today. And I'm pushing the volume a touch more.

I've gone straight to vinyl today too, which takes a bit longer for me. Dunno why.?

Dunno. My Pulse is firing on all cylinders from minute one.

Since taking time off the forum I've not enjoyed as much.

Well not literally. Why do you feel your system needs time to 'warm up' it shouldn't need to to all intents and purposes.

I know mine does as the amp is a hybrid, if I feel I may be sitting down at some point in the day to listen to some music I will power it up first thing in the morning.

Can you not leave the Pulse in stand-by? Never owned one so don't know.

Yeah, it has a faint blue light and flick the remote and it springs into life. The only suggestion is the OP has now become bored with his current set-up.

(Me is thinking Scananavian amp with a radiator or a Italian model that crumbles within 10 miles of a low pressure front). *dance4*

I don't know what it is, I've been the same for many years, through loads of different components, it just takes me some time before I feel the system is at its best.

Once that period of time has gone by, I am very happy with my setup. I can't see me changing anything.

Agreed, half an hour seems to be about the same for mine too. How do you feel the sound changes from before warmed up to after?

Probably simply a mood thing.

Townshend (of Townshend Audio) once remarked that it takes an average twenty minutes for the brain to relax enough in order to actually take in what is happening in a hifi shop audition.

Travelling to, everyday worries, the stress of being in a dealership to audition etc takes its toll. Something about Alpha Brain Waves or similar.

Easy to transfer that scenario into a home environment with kids, a busy job, husband duties etc etc.

I'd like to say it's just a mood thing as it would avoid any necessity to look for scientific explanation as to why sound would change once an amps warmed up, but change it does..

I could describe the sound characterisrics before and after warm up and these are consistent for every listening session.

Completely correct I reckon Mr (Mrs?) D!

I am on board with this as well.

Always put my source on hopefully an hour at least before I want to listen. Then processor and amp on as before as I can.

Although I find the amp seems to idle
and takes a bit to get going and warned up even if on from standby

To describe the difference would be to use typical hifi review terms - but I always know when it's not quite right because I can't settle and listen properly

I do like to warm my ears up something less intense and the speakers for that matter and also work the volume up and over the first few songs :)

You do right.

I only turn my preamplifer and DAC off because valves have a short, finite life and can burn your house down when you are not lookng.

I only turn off the big Bryston 28BSST2's because they raise the room temperature by three degrees celsius if left on!

When I first bought the moon CD player, it took around 3 days for me to get used to it and for it to warm up. Since then, it has sounded perfect. Dunno why, but there you go.

when I use the turntable straight away it can sound a little thin, but after around an hour it too is spot on.

Im sure electronics do require a small period of time to reach an optimum temperature. So, for me, this must be when the sound must also be at its optimum.

i agree that there's a bit of my own ears/brain at work here too. But there's definitely a noticeable difference in performance in equipment going from cold to warm.

I had a Moon 380D DAC on home demo for a little while. The dealer told me to plug it in, switch it on and not listen to it for three days. Must be a Sim Audio thing?

That is odd, are you using tubes? Mine doesn't sound different from switch on to hours later.

i don't know what it is, but after at least an hour, everything sounds better. Maybe it's the Grolsch. Maybe it's psychoacoustic. Maybe I obsess too much about speaker position, whatever it is, I don't mind, I'm used to it. I try not to mess around with my setup, but I'm one of those guys who likes to experiment, especially with speaker positioning.

Add a sub. Believe me there's an opportunity for a lifetime of tweakery

When I'm home, my amp stays on 24/7.

Is that wrong then? Seems like lots of you are on/off quite a bit.....

Not really unless its tube stuff. A lot of equipment is designed to be left on or on standby.

Its just that because of work I sometimes don't have a chance to listen for 3 or 4 days. Can't see the point of leaving it on because of that. Would I listen every day I may would just leave it on.

Out of context question if I may; Where is Vladimir these days?
