I'm embarking on the purchase of my first plasma tv. Visited local electrical superstore today to get a flavour of what I'm looking for, and saw 2 that caught my eye (see title). I'm a technophobe and will only be watching Sky (not HD) - no DVDs / Blue Ray etc

I've searched the web and found the Panasonic for £611.80 and the Samsung for £573.85 delivered. I have no grasp for the relative merits of either product, so was wondering whether anyone can offer me any advice. To my uneducated eye the Samsung appeared to have a better spec, whereas I guess with the Panasonic you are paying for the name somewhat. For the sake of £40 am I better off plumping for the Panna?

Full review of the Panasonic TX-P42X10 here - it's fantastic value for money and at £611 you can't go wrong. As for the Samsung, haven't seen that model in action I'm afraid.

Plumped for the Panasonic TX-P42X10. Very pleased with the pic quality on Analogue/Freeview, but the picture through my Virgin Media box is noticeably worse - any on screen text has a blurry look, and I've tried adjusting all of the picture settings but to no avail.

At the moment I've just got the Virgin Media box connected to the TV through a Scart lead. Although I understand this particular model is not full HD, if I buy a HDMI cable will that improve things? If I will see an improvement, can anyone recommend a budget cable?

Set the Virgin box to output RGB. Make sure you have a well screened Scart cable (not a thin cheap one)

I dont think the standard box has HDMI, only the V+ HD box??
