Because the UK version of the Panny G10 doesnt allow you to control the gamma i was wondering if anyone has tried to alter the gamma controls on the sony S760 (which you can alter when playing a disc) and whether this would compensate for the tvs lack off. On another popular av site the recommended gamma control is 2.2. And also on the S760 there are about 5 different gamma controls. Has anyone else come across this i would be very interested to know. Recently i have calibrated the tv using a disc and have noticed that in some dark scenes in the latest Harry Potter which before didnt show much detail in the dark areas before and now after changing the settings its a totally different picture revealing detail which was just black before.I currently watch in cinema mode with a warm picture setting. Apparently by altering the gamma you can correct the greyscale on the G10? Anyone?

Gazuk, slightly off topic, but I found one of your earlier posts regarding upgrading from Panasonic TH-PV500 to the G10 series. I see that you made the switch and was wondering if you noticed as big an improvement as you hoped? I have the PV500 with a Sony S760 too and am trying to convince the missus that we NEED a new telly! Been researching the G10s obsessively recently and am hoping to get a 46" or even a 50" - great prices in the sales at the moment. Hope you can help!

Firstly i must say what a great tv the PV500 was and yes there are improvements with theG10.The blacks are better with more noticable detail especially with bluray 1080p and the judder is much better when the camera pans, but cant say i see any big improvement with standard def tv. As for the sound the PV500 had amazing sound were as the G10 is just ok but i use my amp anyway. Over all the biggest improvement is with blu ray and i bet the improvement is even better on a bigger screen.

I think if I was to get one now know I would get a master audio one.

Quiz Question:

What was the first movie at the Cinema to use DTS?

Yeh, the sound from the PV500 is exceptional. Most of my viewing would be standard def through the tv speakers so that's something to consider, usually keep the blurays for the weekends. I'll defo have to demo the speakers beforehand. Didnt expect much of an improvement in image quality on standard def but hope the 46" or 50" isnt TOO big for that resolution. There doesnt seem to be much choice when it comes to good plasma tvs right now and lcd & led just don't do it for me. Too artificial looking. Thanks for your input here!

I always' wanted when I was younger the Jurassic Park and Ghostbuster Superbit's Dvd's with the DTS, but you could only get them in Japan.

This must be the worst example of going off topic.

Has nobody any views on the use of the Blu-ray Gamma control?
