Past couple of days I haven't been able to use the timer recording functions via the guide+ on a Panasonic dmr-bw780. It is connected to the tv via HDMI, have had the set up for a few months, and have made sure everything is securely plugged in. When you find the programme you want to record and select it for the timer, for a second the confirmation screen appears then the screen goes blue and it switches back to the channel you were watching before selecting the guide. Have tried it via scart and the same thing happens, thought it was due to bad weather but winds have died down and my Humax pvr works fine upstairs. Could it be the tv? Am I missing something really basic here?

There may have been a firmware/EPG update that's somehow not loaded properly.

I'm not familiar with your Panasonic - does it have a menu that gives you an update to check/update firmware? (Maybe a 'system' or 'settings' menu?)

Might also be worth doing a retune of the channels just to make sure everything is where it should be.

Also as Clare says check for firmware updates by connecting the machine online.

Edit. If all else fails try resetting the unit and then do an initial setup again.

Hi Violetb,

I have 3 panasonic recorders DVD / Hard disc although not bluray. On my panasonics you press the FUNCTIONS button then I Select Others and I select SETUP. In Setup I can select Tuning and Auto setup to search for all the channels again. If I choose OTHERS I get the option to do a SYSTEM UPDATE or change the Clock etc. I helped a friend with his Panasonic and the menus seem to be pretty constant over the years, why change it when it is not broken. My oldest panasonic is 5 years old and my newest 3 months. I hope this helps. Have you archived any recordings to Bluray or DVD?

Best wishes

Chris
