Just turned my GT30 on today and was prompted to update the software, it updated from version 1.218 to 1.219, does anybody know what this update was for? I cant find anything online.

My GT30 prompted me to do the same update a few days ago but there seems to be no information out there about what it has done to the software.

I know that updates normally fix some issues or add features to Viera Connect but nothing was added to the Connect market as a result of the update so i would presume it's an update to address some known issues but what they are i simply don't know...i had an extensive search after the update was prompted by the tv but there seems to be no info out there atall.

Would be very handy if someone knew where to look for this kind of info??

I know, I was hoping that they may have added some new stuff to viera market, but I cant see any changes. I done a search last night, and I saw someone comment on a forum, cant remember which one now, that the update was for compatibility issues with camera for using skype.

As the thread suggests....version 1.219, still no idea what it's done though.

I got a response from Panasonic customer services UK this morning regarding the 1.219 update, here it is:

Thank you for your e-mail enquiry regarding your TX-P42GT30 television.

In response, an update (1.219) has been released for 2010 and 2011 Viera models which will render them compatible with the TY-CC20W 2012 Skype camera.

I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us by sending an email using this form: www.panasonic.co.uk/email Please include your ticket reference in the message.

Kind Regards,

Louis Hemsley

So problem solved and the update doesn't need to be installed unless you want to use the camera for Skype, hope that clears it up.

Oldboy, I remember you from being involved in posts on the green blob issue with the panasonic 2011 range tv's. I have never really been affected by this issue until the other day, I was watching a freesat channel with a light white/grey background and there was a noticeable green patch near the middle of the tv. I have tried my hardest to look for it since then, but I havnt seen it again. I heard Panasonic have some sort of update for it, but have read on many forums that the update doesnt really work, and has even messed up some peoples sets. Have you had any such issue with your current tv?

audiowizard,

Yes i did have the issue raise it's ugly head on my GT30 tv, it started just with greys on the set and then started to spread to the whites too with a strange tinge of green throughout these two colours.

Panasonic have indeed released an update although it's not a standard update and is more hardware related, it's carried out by an engineer via 3 seperate SD cards and takes about 10-15mins to complete. I had this update carried out to my tv and i have to admit it solved the issue entirely and hasn't messed up my set atall, all my settings remained intact (thank god) so no calibration was required after and i have not experienced any green blobs since with whites or greys or any other colour for that matter.

I can only go by my experience and that of others on this forum that had the update carried out and tell you that all of us that had the update carried out found that it solved the issue entirely and didn't affect the tv in any way afterwards so i would report the issue to Panasonic if it's under warranty and get the update carried out.

Panasonic are aware of the issue and i found that when i called them the customer service team knew exactly what the issue was and that an update needed to be carried out to solve it, i think in total it took a week or two for them to come out and install the update which wasn't bad. As far as i'm aware if any harm is caused to the tv via the update or if it fails to solve the issue then you are covered under your warranty, providing your tv is still under warranty of course, so you shouldn't be concerened about having the update applied to your set.

Hope that helps and keep me updated with what you decide to do :)

Thanks Oldboy, I have emailed Panasonic support about the issue. I have a 5 year warranty with the tv anyway, and I only purchased it in December last year. I have to admit though, this is the first time I have saw the green blob, it was on one of the freesat channels, on a near white background, and I havn't saw it again. Maybe I should just leave it a while until I see it again.

Perhaps...but imo i think it's best to report the issue, if like my tv it starts with only occasional glimpses of it i can assure you that it will only get worse over time. The best way to check it is to select the setup menu on the tv and enter either the favourites edit menu or the manual tuning menu and look closely at the greys that are displayed by the tv on these menus, if you see green tinges or blobs then you know you have the issue.

Just keep an eye on it for now and see what response you get from Panasonic, as you emailed them don't expect a quick response as i've found that it takes them anything up to a week to reply but you should just be advised that the update is required and they will ask for all your details and arrange it.

Very wise getting the 5 year warranty! I had to pay for mine as Panasonic weren't doing a Promotion at the time so i took my 5 year warranty out with Richer Sounds when i bought the tv and i'm so glad i did, if anything it's just peice of mind if anything does go wrong in the future.
